BT broadband bill £202

Well yes I can. They have remedies of course, but the fact is that non-payment of a phone bill is no big deal.
I don't have an 'issue', I know exactly what goes through my internet connection. I have had two phone and broadband lines for the last 3 years, both of them on the cheapest package, one from Post Office, one from BT. I used the Post Office package as primary with no problems for several years and the BT as backup.
One day I switched the wires over when I had a problem with one of my modems, BT was crap with traffic shaping, etc. but I never bothered to go back to Post Office, and now I find they have sent me this huge bill and make no offer to charge me according to the 'unlimited' option, but just say it's tough.
So fine, line cancelled, direct debit cancelled, FIN.
Eh? I have a copy of my credit report, BT are not on it, they can't do anything to me (well they can sue me, but I don't really care I have plenty of money to defend against them).
Fact is they are charging me £17/month for broadband, unlimited is £28 (only £11 more), the £150 charge is a nonsensical penalty, they could have made an offer to settle but nope they don't want to do that, well good luck to them pursuing me for the debt, and they've now lost my business for the rest of my life. Not my problem, theirs, they'll need to chase me, they won't see any more business from me, am I bovvered? Not in the slightest.
And here I am up and running with my other phone line and broadband connection saving £336/year paid to BT.
Great. Bye bye BT. :T:j:j:beer:
If you have 'plenty of money' as you say, then just pay the bill. You were billed correctly for what you used, so grow up and stop being so pathetic.
However something tells me that you maybe don't have quite as much money as you're letting on...Getting married to a wonderful lady on August 10, 2012.
Need to save up, lose weight, reduce my money worries and get back to being the real me! :j0 -
You should have bent over backwards to apologise for your error, asked them would they come to some arrangement re the fee or poss wipe it off if you upgraded your package with bt. If got no where with the caller you describe, you should have rung back and got to speak to complaints/escalation and ask again.
Even if they chose then not to come to agreement you should have upgraded packaged or paid bill and simply gone to another provider.
I use bt internet unlimited and for near a year never used much, then last six months have hammered the internet my usage and now there is three computers linked to my box with two xboxes as well on live. I am okay due to choosing no risk of going over internet that meant I could have been overpaying for months but came into play now, I chose to do it.
You chose package 1 the cheapest so have to have some dignity in admitting you are at fault and try to sort out minus the high horse.0 -
but I don't really care I have plenty of money to defend against them).
do you own a business???? can i have a service off you?
but to let you know im not paying the bill...... i got loadsa money, and couldnt give 2 flying tosses cos my pals are thugs!
And some people who have money think they are above everyone else, and other businesses.
Defend your a joke.... you purchased a service, and exceeded your usages... BT have not acted unfairly.Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
Does anyone remember way back when the OP originally asked this question? It seems like any age ago now...Just got a bill from BT for BT Total Broadband Option 1- £202.
My last bill was £50.34
The bill is made up of £52.20 for rental and £150 for usage - unitemised.
I am not inclined to pay it, any advice how to proceed?
So just to recap, why exactly did you bother asking the question when you already had a clear idea of how to proceed? Namely, alientating yourself from anyone who tried to give you advice regarding the preservation of your credit file, making yourself seem like an aggressive, dare I say it, idiot and finally bragging about how you are so well stocked with cash that you would rather defend yourself in court instead of paying what you actually owe?

That's definitely not right. I don't have a credit account with them for any payments to be late. Otherwise it would show on my credit record for BT:
0 0 0 0 0 0 0
etc.
But there is nothing for BT on my credit record at all.
Someone says they can record a default on the debt, ok that might be true, though I'd like to understand the legal basis for it, but short of default there is no 'late payment' here.
It will NOT show anything from BT just YET on your credit file, but six months down the line it WILL if you carry on being stubborn. You keep saying you don't have a credit account with them - well EVERYONE does that uses their services - you are being credited the use of internet and phone calls BEFORE YOU PAY. Every three months or month you then get a bill for what you have ALREADY used - therefore they are providing you credit.
This is why it will destroy your credit file!“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0 -

I've just had exactly the same problem as this. I recieved a bill yesterday with an ominous additional charge of 'Broadband Usage £90.00' on top of my usual line rental fees. This pretty much trebled my bill!
I just rang them up and got the same response as the OP. They said they sent me an e-mail to tell me that my usage had increased (I'm not a heavy internet user at all! I don't download films or music. I can only assume it's xbox live that's done the damage). Again, it was sent to a BT e-mail address that they had set up on my behalf when I first registered. I'd never even heard of the address in question.
Although I think that's incredibly underhanded and sneaky, I doubt I'd have a leg to stand on legally and will just have to pay it. I was going to cancel my account on principle, mainly because the woman I was speaking to had a terrible attitude and couldn't understand what my problem was with getting a bill for 3 times my normal amount out of the blue. The man in the cancellations department was very helpful and understanding though and I've now increased my monthly limits and managed to get a smaller combined fee than I currently pay for phone and internet.
Obviously, I'm really unhappy but I cancelling would be just cutting my nose off to spite my face. Not worth the hassle and/or bad credit rating.0 -

If memory serves thats about 30 MB per hour online gaming and/or typically 3 GB to 8 GB each per game or free demo downloaded.0 -

When they send the router out and the instruction manual.... memory serves me correct the email address is in the letter with the password fo the email address.
i clearly remember seeing the email address, but like yourself i dont use.... but im on unlimited so i dont bother with it.....
sometimes a bit of reading, but for us users sometimes BT should let us kill that email, and connect to our already running email addressesPromo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0
