Eh? If I say you owe me £100 and you deny it, I need to take you to court, get a CCJ, and if that is not paid the default will be noted on your credit record.

I don't have a credit account with BT, so there is nothing to default against.

I never had a credit account with British Gas and when there was a problem with my last bill they default me and the default was on my credit files for six years.

BT are providing you with credit through the phone and broadband service. BT perform credit check on new customers for their services.

If you do not pay it, and the debt gets sold on, it will go n your credit file. Also, if you ever move and can only get BT in the area, then they are very unlikely to supply you. Additonally you may end up owing a greater amount. It is silly not to pay this and risk your credibility as a consumer, because in the end you will have to pay it.

Again, what!? Sounds like you haven't got the first clue really.

The CCJ comes AFTER the default. You will get a default, then if you still fail to pay they'll go to court for a CCJ.

You owe money, you CAN be defaulted for it if they sell your account to a debt collector.

You can (also) default on a CCJ, and this will be recorded on your credit record.

We'll see what comes from them, in the mean time I'm well rid.

You are in for a big shock when BT destroy your credit files and you cannot get any credit for six years.

And if you default on a CCJ they can apply to the court to have Bailiffs pay you a visit.

At the moment I've merely cancelled my service following the (unpaid) bill dated 30th June, I'm not sure how long they will take with this - I'm going away for two months on Sunday.

You might be well rid of BT and you will also be rid of getting any new credit for the next six years.

Well indeed, but that's rather a long way in the future. You don't mess with court judgements, my inclination however in the mean time was to tell them to stick it, but it looks like I might be wrong on that.

Just got a bill from BT for BT Total Broadband Option 1- £202.

    My last bill was £50.34

The bill is made up of £52.20 for rental and £150 for usage - unitemised.

I am not inclined to pay it, any advice how to proceed?

From your subsequent answers, I don't think that advice on how to proceed is what you want. You want us to say "How clever you are for getting out of paying what you owe".
