Teacher's presents - the other side

At xmas when my son moved up from nursery, we put together a hot chocolate hamper. He had 5 teachers so we put 5 mugs in 20 satchets of different hot chocs, a mini whisk, choc shaker, box of biscuits, marshmellows and 5 mini boxes of after eights. We put it in a big wicker basket and they all loved it.
I still see the teachers now as he is in the next classrom...they are still using the mugs for their drinks and the basket is now used as storage for toys in the classroom.
This term even tho he is moving upa gain i cant do anything. His teacher left a couple of months ago as she was real poorly and they have had loads of stand in teachers since! I wouldnt know who to give too lol0 -
My youngest is leaving nursery now in 3 weeks time and he got a lovely teacher. Since we can't really afford to buy anything I suggested we plant some sunflowers seeds and give her the plant at the end of term. He has hand painted the pot and the sunflower is 4ft high....but there is no flower on it
at least not yet...fingers crossed. What are the chances that one will appear in the next 20 days, specially with all the rain we have had. 0 -
Maybe I'm stingy but I've never bought any of my children's teachers a present. They get paid for doing it don't they? It's not like it's a voluntary job.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Absolutely. Exactly that, we get paid for doing it and the reward is seeing the results at the end - just like in any other job. That result could be anything from a child "getting" division or maturing into a sensible Year 3 (or whatever the age).
My best present came last week, when a child said "thank you" to me for giving him more difficult maths in class!!!
If I do get a present, then the best ones are homemade (by the children) cards.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 #18 £2021.83 declared0 -
When I was a Virgin Vie rep we spent ages wrapping lovely presents in cellophane for the teachers. I'm not sure if it was appreciated or not.
This year we will get wine and a card for the teachers, I always get a bottle of wine and drop a line to the Headteacher too.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

Yes they get paid for what they do... but by no stretch of the imagination do they get paid enough! I know several teachers and the dedication they have to other peoples children is amazing! My next door neighbour will spend almost every evening and most weekends (and a large amount of her holidays too!) preparing and doing either paper work, or preparing crafts for them or correcting their home work. It's not a 9-5... it's more like a 7am till 10pm!
What always shocks me is when she spends HOURS preparing for parent teacher evenings and the parents often don't bother turning up!!! They are not HER kids but she cares more than their own parents... Not saying this is the norm, but I know she has to put up with some horrid parents!
So even if you don't want to or can't afford a little pressie then trust me... a little letter from the kids or a card really truely is enough to bring a tear to her eye and she displays them proudly at home... it takes what? 10 minutes? And it really means the world! Although if I know her then a bottle of wine wouldn't go amiss either :rotfl:
Seriously she wouldn't expect anything, but something from the kids would be so appreciated...
However... £50??? bit over the top me thinks!!!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -
We do get paid, but it's lovely when the students thank you for what you do. It doesn't have to be anything material - even just a student saying thank you makes it all worth it sometimes. I used to teach in a really difficult institution so a student showing appreciation in any way whatsoever really meant alot.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0

I am pleased this was brought up as I would've left things till last minute - again! lol
I had never thought of the office staff so I will do something for them and I will make a tray of homemade cakes from the children for the reception team as there are seven of them!
I will also get the kids to make a card for each of the reception team - both mine in there lol

Please don't forget your childminder too!
We often get forgotten - I had one Mum who asked me to come out to her car to look at all her gifts on the last day of summer term......All I got was a 'see you in september!'
