Teacher's presents - the other side

For all those who have spent money on a present for your kids teacher, something to think about.

My Boss brought in loads of sweets and biscuits to work as his teacher wife had been given so many that they couldn't eat them all. Everything from Terry choc orange, ferrero rocher, to fancy florentines.

Seems a shame that people have spent their cash on something that wasn't really wanted.Perhaps just a card another year would be better value MSE style.

I always buy the teachers a nice scented candle from M&S or Yankee Candles.

As a secondary school teacher I don't get too many presents but the ones I prefer are candles and this year I got a lovely mug

I always get lots of boxes of chocs but we (DH, DD1, DD2) eat them over the coming months. I just think the parents are really generous and I do appreciate their gifts. If we get any tins of biscuits then we store them in the staffroom and have them with our cups of tea! :T

I asked a friend who is a teacher this year what teachers like as presents. Her answer - wine!

I considered wine but was hesitant as a lot of people don't drink. I thought I was a lot safer with choccies.

My mums a hairdresser and my dad a school bus driver and they also get more sweets/goodies than they can manage. The reason I didn't buy my kids teacher a pressie this year though is cos I can't abide her:o :p
  • I', a teacher and am grateful for all gifts! I do share out the chocs and biscuiots though with friends and colleagues as it would be too greedy to eat them all!

I would give wine, but sometimes I question myself if its appropriate for my kids to give an adult (teacher) wine as a present? I stuck to a big bar of chocolate this year, was going to be home made fudge but I didnt get organised in time.

My daughter has two teachers & a teaching assistant - I bought them a £10 gift voucher each.

Eldest (5.5) has one main teacher, and then about 6 or 8 other teachers and TAs (his year was a big intake, so they've spread the load between them and Foundation) - all of whom he wanted to give something to - so we made a tub of the OS weetabix brownies for them all to have at teabreak, and then he made a card and small box of peppermint creams for the main teacher.

I never really thought about overloading them - it's his first Christmas at school so it's all new to us.
