Teacher's presents - the other side

  • I work in a pre-school and love getting presents from the children. It doesn't matter how much they cost but it makes me feel appriciated( sorry it's late and I can't spell, perhaps a dictionary would be a good gift LOL). Not saying all children should give presents, just that like everyone else I'm sure, I love getting a gift. And yes I give a present back to all the children, via Santa who comes to our Xmas party every year.
    I will be rich :rotfl:
  • I am a teacher and I have to say that I prefer to get a message of appreciation from parents but if they feel they have to buy a gift then chocolate wins every time for me.

It helps in time of stress, can be shared with young and old and is suitable for all budgets. I do worry that some parents seem to spend an inordinate amount on teachers presents.

I have suggested that they might like to put it towards an ethical gift (school supplies for the 3rd world?) but was reminded that this would cost the parents more as they would still feel that they had to get me something. We certainly don't think any less of children who don't give us a present nor any more of those who do.

To everyone who gave a teacher a present this year - thank you:j

Yes I do return the gift - every child in my class receives a book at Christmas - always have, always will.

I hope you all have a happy and stress free Christmas.

  • DD has 2 teachers - she gives them each a decoration for their Christmas tree, which seems to go down well. Birthdays Shop had lovely baubles with "To a special teacher" on them for £1.99.

    Have a lovely Christmas.

As for what I would like - anything is gratefully received, but white wine or a plant would always be my top choices. A message in a card is also nice - I always keep any that are particularly special.

It's my daughter's first Christmas at Nursery and we never bought the teachers presents. This is mainly because I have no idea who they are as we've never been introduced!

She started there last Jan and at the end of the last school year, her teacher retired and the teaching assistant left too. Since then there have been up to 5 adults in the class and I have no idea who the teacher is etc. it does worry me that we are happy to leave her there with strangers for a couple of hours each day!

I would have bought the first set of staff a pressie - they were both lovely!

Thought I would bump this as we're nearing the end of the school year and I for one needed some ideas, lol.

Year 1 son wants to buy his teacher chocs, so I'm going to get some nice posh ones and do them up in a mini hamper with some other (to be decided) bits and pieces - I've worked out that I can put together a really good hamper for around £10 if I utilise some of my MSE stockpile, lol, and my son loves putting these bundles together too.

For all those who have spent money on a present for your kids teacher, something to think about.

My Boss brought in loads of sweets and biscuits to work as his teacher wife had been given so many that they couldn't eat them all. Everything from Terry choc orange, ferrero rocher, to fancy florentines.

Seems a shame that people have spent their cash on something that wasn't really wanted.Perhaps just a card another year would be better value MSE style.

nice idea but on the otherhand some mums just cant get out of the 'competitive mum' mode
Their gift has to be bigger and better than any of the others.
Their bunch of flowers HAS to be a !!!!!!!g chelsea flower show display.

im sooo glad my ds is a senior school now and gone are the playground politics that go with it

  • I usually buy Lush gift boxes at Xmas & the girls make their teachers' a card.

End of year, teachers get gift baskets from the girls always with something in they've made themselves .

organisedhome.com has some great ideas for homemade gifts

It works out so much cheaper doing it this way and I think more thoughtful too :)
