Thought I would share this with you just catching the subject of the post.

Yesterday was the last day of term up here for the majority Scotland. Teachers were going out of the school with huge carrier bags of pressies (probably one per child). Classroom assistants and auxiliaries a bit less. Janitor quite a lot plus dinner ladies quite a few. Two ladies in the office - absolutely nothing from either pupils or staff!!!!!!! Sorry, but the best run schools depends on the office both from a staff point of view from the parents (I hope!).

Main admin lady left more than two and a half hours later than she should and said she would need at least a couple of days in the holidays to catch up with what was dumped on her yesterday. I used to work in a school office and I can assure you not an easy job!

Thank you grannybroon for mentioning the office staff! I also worked in a school office and the lady you mentioned could have been me. Often still there after teachers had long gone.

Parents don't realise the work some of the office staff do such as buying & wrapping Christmas presents, organising for Santa to be there to give them out, organising trips, hiring buses, etc. There's also sorting out problems, looking after little ones if they take ill at school or making sure children who are entitled to free meals etc are getting them. Not as important as educating the children, but without them the schools couldn't function.

I am sure none of them would be looking for a gift, but a small card or even a thank-you would be much appreciated. Teachers often get all the credit for things they didn't even do!!
  • I have decided this year to write personal cards to all of my daughter's teachers. I am going to make a chocolate cake for them to share which will be made and decorated by my daughter and then I am going to buy a charity gift for them.

  • My best ever present from a pupil in my class was half a dozen eggs from his pet chickens that he'd 'picked' himself that morning!!! I'd rather something like that or a picture.
I have diabetes but a lot of parents don't know that, so the chocs i get get eaten by my husband, friends, DD, DD's friends etc!

I've made some seed packet holders for my younger son's preschool staff. I needed to make 7 of them and found seeds in Wilkos for 97p or 3 for £1.50. The wording inside says 'thank you for helping me grow'.

For my older son, he's chosen mugs for his teacher and teaching assistant and we're going to add a bag of Maltesers or something and wrap them in cellophane. He also wants to give his teacher and lady in the office a seed packet so I made a couple of extra ones but DS1 can write his own message inside.

Really easy, to make the holder I used a piece of thin patterned cardstock measuring 3.5" x 12". I scored a 1 inch piece and folded up and attached the seed packet to this piece and to the back of the holder to secure the seeds. I then folded down the cardstock and tucked the end under the 1 inch piece to secure it and then decorated with the stamped girl picture, thank you ticket etc. If you look at my homepage you should find my blog and I have pictures and info on makng them on there (there are 2 posts, the info is in one dated 16th June ;)). I can't post a direct link as the mods will get mad :(

HTH, please let me know if you have any more questions x

These are really brilliant! I would love to have a go at making them. I think the teachers and classroom assistants at my children's school would love them.

    Thank you for posting!
