nice idea but on the otherhand some mums just cant get out of the 'competitive mum' mode
Their gift has to be bigger and better than any of the others.
Their bunch of flowers HAS to be a !!!!!!!g chelsea flower show display.
im sooo glad my ds is a senior school now and gone are the playground politics that go with it
I know just what you mean, we've one mum at my eldests school that's a shocker for it .
A teacher recently left and she spent....wait for it......£50 on a present  ."Every time you feel yourself getting pulled into someone else's nonsense, tell yourself: Not my circus, not my monkeys." - Mark Borkowski.

this is it, why do parents buy for teachers?? and when some can't afford it!There is one teacher and two assistants in my sons class, do i buy for them all?? Really i have tended not to bother, just a card.
When i worked at M&S, a teacher brought a gift back, she wanted to exchange it!!which i thought was wrong, pressie was abt a tenner!!0 -

I think a homemade cake that your daughter's decorated is a really thoughtful gift , I've done this plenty of times and they've always been very well recieved."Every time you feel yourself getting pulled into someone else's nonsense, tell yourself: Not my circus, not my monkeys." - Mark Borkowski.

This is why a lot of the time I do the homemade thing....Kills two birds with one stone........teachers' presents sorted and kids quietly making it .
Xmas I've got to admit I do the lazy option and buy something ,but keep myself to a small budget."Every time you feel yourself getting pulled into someone else's nonsense, tell yourself: Not my circus, not my monkeys." - Mark Borkowski.

Thought I would share this with you just catching the subject of the post.
Yesterday was the last day of term up here for the majority Scotland. Teachers were going out of the school with huge carrier bags of pressies (probably one per child). Classroom assistants and auxiliaries a bit less. Janitor quite a lot plus dinner ladies quite a few. Two ladies in the office - absolutely nothing from either pupils or staff!!!!!!! Sorry, but the best run schools depends on the office both from a staff point of view from the parents (I hope!).
Main admin lady left more than two and a half hours later than she should and said she would need at least a couple of days in the holidays to catch up with what was dumped on her yesterday. I used to work in a school office and I can assure you not an easy job!

I know how you feel - I have three children (one at school, one at playgroup and one bringing up the rear, lol), and it's precisely why I'm doing a hamper 'thing' - they look so much more than they cost, and yet have the thought put into them that hopefully will be appreciated.
Why not try something similar? Decorate a shoebox or something, add a couple of nice bars of choc (Tesco have Cote D'or at half price for the next few weeks - 64p a bar, and these are with cardboard wrappers, not paper and foil, so they look really good), maybe something home-made, like a pencil holder (jam jar with coloured paper/glass paint decorations) or some cookies, plump up with shredded tissue (or bubble wrap with a label saying 'instant stress reliever', lol) and away you go - all depends on the age of the child as to how far you can take it.

Great idea! I have just followed the link but it's slightly wrong - this one will take you to the page you need.

Great idea to revive this thread - I always seem to get caught out with the end of term and end up panic buying!0
