It's a bit ironic when the local bus company run special services at the weekends in the summer to countryside destinations with half the windows covered in a mesh-type advertising sticker.

I must admit I thought this was a windup when I first read this thread. Whatever next -complaining to the local council that the scenery isn't good enough!!

Most of the time you don't get a view on the bus when you factor in rain/mud/muck and the condensation on the windows from the multitude of passengers.

    "multitude of passengers"...

Round our way you'll be lucky to see ten people on a bus outside the rush hours. ;)

Buses have seen a renaissance in off peak travel since free travel was given to the Krustys. I've been on bus journeys after 9.30am where the bus was 90% full and I was the only paying passenger. (OK I know the bus company gets a rebate for each pensioner travelling).

A bus journey into the countryside has always been a pleasure for many people; for those who want to leave the car at home and visit somewhere without worrying about parking or going for a couple of drinks at some lovely country pubs. I do not agree that passengers should put up with their windows being obscured for the sake of the bus company getting more income. They can, and always have, advertise on the sides and back of the bus, but the windows is going too far.

The journey I took wasn't a special service, but it was a Saturday trip past a scenic river, through part of a forest, passing lovely quaint villages and many fields...the sort of trip where everyone wants to look out rather than have to look at the inside of the bus!

In First's Customer Charter they promise to "listen to our customers", "achieve a high standard of customer service" and "invest in vehicles".

Here is an example of what I mean: https://www.plymothiantransit.com/2008/10/another-new-advert-bus.html

Is there anything that requires bus companies to have windows that passengers can clearly see through?

So what did First Bus say after listening to you?

I have sent them an email and I await a response.

We have a very good council owned bus company in our town, but around 15 years ago First came in and took over the most profitable routes leaving the town company to serve the less attractive routes, resulting in higher fares and less money for investment. It seems a shame to me that bus services are not properly regulated so they are run for the good of the travelling public rather than operators and their shareholders.

You should have been able to see out quite well as they use contravision for adverts on windows it will also act like a window tint which will help keep the inside cooler and block the sun a little. I suspect if it wasn't on the bus you would have come here complaining the bus was too hot and the sun was too bright why don't they use window tint.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.
