Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
    And we were young.

  • If anyone has an android device, I downloaded 'ispend' and its Fab. I input what I bought, much it cost and what category it belongs to, like home, leisure, etc, I can then see it in statistics, other than just £50 in tesco, once I input the new kettle for 'home (mine broke last night :-( ) ' , Christmas food and presents in 'other ' with a small note saying Xmas its now not £50 on food..
Anyway, its the best app I've found so far.
It doesn't have an 'incoming money field, which I thought I wouldn't like, but I prefer it this way.

  • Hi all,

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: been having the same conversation with DH the last few days. Can't wait til the New Year to really get back in the swing. Although we have not spent much on Christmas.

Our dinner will be whoopsie the biggest saving being the beef down to 30p  all the veg 10p each and stuffing etc. Chicken £1 so all the dinner will cost us is under £3 for 10 of us :T:T:T

I am going to make an effort to grow our own next year so will be going on the gardening forum I finks :)

Must hunt round for gifts in Jan. Some of this years have been candles and smellies (new) that I have bought from jumbles for 20p so could do with stock piling these when I find them ;).

Must get back in the habit of writing down every spend no matter how small as it really does make you think.

Oh my head has been swirling thinking what we have to do and cut back on.

I think next year will be really tough so I am going to really cut back to the point where I squeak when I walk :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Two years til DH comes out and we will only have a pension to live on so all debts must be paid by then!!!

  • Phew......Glad i am not the only one thinking about being frugal, rather than christmas...:D

well done on the bargins for christmas dinner:T

I managed to get some good bargins earlier on today... basically £53 worth for just under £13..

here is what i posted on the food bargin thread ( post 43)

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3685131

so i have just portioned the mince etc so all in the freezer..

Sorry i didnt buy the chest freezer i have been looking at a few weeks ago, as i could have bought a few more bargins..

Even hubby said he was thinking of buying me the freezer for christmas, but he thought i would 'clonk' him:rotfl: a few years ago i would have, but now with extreme frugality on the cards for next year, it would have been greatly received....

will go and see what bargin chest freezers are in the after christmas sales

    Hello fellow frugallers:j

Well after taste testing a couple bottles of mulled wine with chums:D I too decided to be a dedicated frugallers and Mr GBT and I strolled over to Mr T so see what bargains were to be snaffled. We spent £15 [somehow another bottle of mulled wine seemed to leap into my basket:rotfl::rotfl:] and now have a goodly stash of reduced Christmas cards, some veggies, bakery items and half priced salmon which we have frozen. I'm sure there were far greater reductions to be had later on but I wouldn't have had the willpower to leave the house by then:D

Hope you all have a peaceful and relaxing Christmas

A Merry Christmas to everyone, and thanks for all your support.

    xx

PS - Read my post on the 2012 post today ;)

As some of you know, I've had some mega family ill-health the last few months, so, having finished all my Crimbo preparations, for the world and his wife, who will be descending here tomorrow, I thought I'd have a cuppa and a lookie-see on here.

And Frugaldom, you angel, :A, you have managed to make me laugh hysterically, till the tears ran down my face, due to your post. The one about how you intend to cut down. And I quote:

Read my electricity meter every wee to keep an eye on costs ..... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Sorry sweetie, but it just conjured up a vision of you finishing your wee, and then racing to read the electricity meter, with your knickers round your ankles!!!

Wishing all of you a Merry Christmas, hope everything gets cooked and ready at the same time, and a Happy New Year.

    xx
