    Hello fellow frugallers:j
NatNat- what awful news. So sorry. Good to see you SS!

Thanks KittyJ for the mention of the paper wreaths- I had a quick look and I agree they look fab. I've made a handstitched snowman felt decoration so far this year [started a robin but not happy with the result so will redo] and they've worked out fairly thrifty. The year the small person was born I had a Shaker catalogue and I copied some of the wooden decorations as couldn't afford the real thing. They again were quite cheap as we already had offcuts of wood.

An unspendy weekend here at GBT although have used a fair amount of fuel to visit my MIL today. Yesterday I took advantage of the fabulous weather and went out with friends on a longish walk in the Downs. We were lucky enough to see a buzzard, a folly , beautiful fungi, scatters of neolithic flint knapping leftover from tool making and we visited the local church which boasts a very rare wooden effigy of a knight on one of its tombs. This particular friend and I regularly visit churches because we're both keen on medieval wall paintings, gargoyles, greenmen and many of the other treasures to be seen. As ever we updated our lending library:D I've come away with a box and bubble wrap and 3 DVDs to watch and I left her with some mags and the Victorian Farm DVD [she doesn't own a TV so had never heard of the series but had really enjoyed tales of the green valley]

Before we left today we prepped a choc chilli in the slow cooker and made our own packed lunches so we weren't stung by the motorway services. We did sneak out for a cuppa and a bun though before we came home:rotfl::rotfl:

Sandra I'm glad to hear your daughter is making some progress.

Sorry that your husband isn't doing so well.

    Hi everyone
We had a fab time on Friday night, brownies went down well and I got absolutely trollied and did Karaoke until 1:30 am!!!
Then woke up to devestating news the next day, one of the families just outside the village had had a house fire and their 3 year old daughter hadn't got out. It's absolutely horrendous, she went to pre-school with my son, everyone is at a loss what to do. Their house literally burnt to the ground so a few of us collected clothes, wash stuff etc together and took it to where they're staying but what do you say? I didn't say anything just gave them massive hugs and my phone number and said if they need anything to call. We're having a get together to see what we can do tomorrow morning, going to do a collection. When things like this happen it puts things into perspective.

I am so. so sorry to hear this news... its allways before christmas you hear about tragedies like this...

When hearing news like this it makes you realise how precious our time on this planet is, and to make sure we injoy every second with out kids, family and friends

  • natnat - Sorry to hear about the tragic event.

Hugs to those in need of them.

I'm meeting for lunch with a few people from my course today - will see if I can keep it fairly frugal - they do a fiver express meal so may go for that and add a few sides.

I do feel that frugality has gone out the window somewhat of late and I've surprised at how much money is still in my account but I remembered I stopped the transfer into my savings for a few weeks until January.

Anyway I will knuckle back down in the New Year - I will have my fiftieth coming up in April, girlie will go travelling and then I will have Uni to help her through!

  • Did a long reply last night and before I posted it the laptop went off. To be fair it had given me fair warning that the battery was low...still.
Natnat so sorry to hear the awful news. What else can you say when this happens. Words seem meaningless :(

I am taking Minky to the vets shortly.

I really hope I will be bringing her home with me but will be advised by them.
