    Hello fellow frugallers:j:j
All's well here at GBT- I have been most lucky in the pavement kill stakes and found a £2 and £1 coin in the last few days:rotfl:We've also had significant refunds from our gas and elec and one for our solar panels. Money flowing in rather than out for a change:D:D
Had a most marvellous time with a chum on my day off on Friday- she's been on an Indian cookery course and she showed me how to prepare several veggie dishes. It was great fun and we enjoyed a joint supper [I took the pud along] with our other halves. I was surprised at how simple it was and picked up lots of tips along the way.
I've yet to try this recipe but she gave me a copy and it looks like it should be a fairly frugal one so thought I'd share:
    Baked Bean Pasties
Makes 8 pasties. Can be frozen for a month
2 tbsp olive oil, 1 small onion finely chopped, 1tbsp mild curry paste, 100g red lentils, 450ml veg stock , 200g baked beans, 100g frozen peas, 1 tbsp mango chutney, 450g puff pastrym 1tsp caraway seeds, seasoning [including sea salt]
Preheat oven 200C. Heat oil and fry onion 5 mins. Stir in curry paste, lentils and stock. Simmer 15-20 mins until thickened. Stir in beans , peas and chutney. Season.
Roll our half pastry on floured board to 30cm square. Cut into 4 triangles. Repeat with other jals. Spoon 1/8th of mixture onto one half of one triangle. Brush edges with water, fold other half over and press edges together. Repeat with remaining pastry and filling. Brush with water and sprinkle caraway seeds and sea salt . Bake on a baking sheet for 15-20 mins until golden.
Haven't tried them yet but will be- although not veggie in our household these sounded tasty imo.
Ooh- one weird frugal coincidence to finish. I accidentally managed to pull the small person's wooden curtain rail down last week- it's broken before but Mr GBT did a temporary make do and mend until we have the funds to buy a replacement. In the garden today was one preloved wooden curtain rail with fittings...spooky I thought. Have squirrelled it away in the garage as will definitely reuse it. However, suspect some drunken little sot was using it for his/her 2012 javelin practice last night whilst weaving their way home from some local watering hole:rotfl::rotfl:

  • Sandra nice to hear from you :)

Aril we just got our solar panel money through as well :j

Risingwhat is the best cat food? value/best for cats.

I never really had to buy much before with old mogs as he would eat all the neighbours cat food/scraps. I remember looking out of the bedroom windown one day and the house four houses to the back of us was feeding him tuna in his own bowl then an hour later someone else came out with some ham :rotfl: he was definitely a frugal cat. Mummy and babies are eating for England. The baby girl is packing the weight on already, she is looking like puss in shrek 4

Happy Halloween to those who enjoy it!

I stocked up on sweets but we've hardly had any trick or treaters this year!

I'm disappointed - and now have a sweet surplus unless we get some more later!

Here's a link to our pumpkins - done my OH and his twin brother.

    Hey :)
    Still hear, just about!
I missed a page or 2 and have been reading and not posting as this fone is driving me crazy.

I've not got much to say lately, I know, doesn't normally stop me lol.
    I'll start with the bad.
I'm skint. Just have enough for essentials :(
    No jobs going :(
I'm shattered all day, n not getting enough sleep at night.
    Think I have mice.
My boiler bust n I don't have the money to get fixed.
    Now for the good.
Bought a halogen heater, £15 from tesco, its in sons room, on when we are in.
Applied for a few jobs. Been recommend for one, but haven't heard anything from them yet.
Mr F took me n wee man to Loch Lomond, his sister had booked one of the lodges for a week, we went for 1 night.
He said yesterday he wants us to go away again soon (he always pays, n I feel really bad about it)
It's his birthday next week, I gave him his card today, as I got tickets to a concert a while back n put them in the card, the concert is b4 his bday, n I won't see him til the weekend. Well I left it at his house, hope he sees it lol.

Went to a charity night in memory of my friend and her boy on friday, I went as a nurse, n he came as a doctor, met all my friends for the first time. It went well. Raised over £3000 for yorkhill high dependency unit.(he paid for everything the whole night!)

I'll post a pic once I get the fone charged!

Dizzy sorry to hear you'e not been well.

I thought I would come back from the charity shops empty handed but in the last one I found a lovely Topshop skirt like a retro Laura Ashley and a great 'coat' cardie. They will have to do me until I can find a coat as my coat is now huge from the weight loss!

Sandra glad your daughter is on the mend.

    Those pasties sound good Aril.
