Ive just been asked by my work today to make a cake for Friday for 300 people!!! EEEEK. Too good an opportunity to just say no to. Ive been pricing it up and I think it will cost about £110 in ingredients so taking in to account the time and work that will need to go in to it from now to then Im thinking of asking for £300. It seems like a lot but its only £1 a head which to me does not sound unrealistic at all. Any opinions?

I like to think of it like this, if the person ordering the cake took a couple of the people who are going to be there to say Starbucks, they'll pay over £2 for a slice of cake. They wouldn't question it.

Theres that saying that good cake ain't cheap, and cheap cake ain't good.

Good luck with it! It is short notice for such a large cake, would love to see a piccie after!

I have my dads 70th Birthday coming up in a few weeks and would really love to make him a cake he's really into his music, plays accordian, flute etc and the 2 bands that he is a member of are going to be at his party anyone got any ideas how I could make these part of his cake any help greatly appreciated thanks xx

Depending how confident you are with piping, you could have the notes, bars and treble cleff etc from a part of his fav song? Just take a bar or two and put it on the cake. Most people will then understand the music link and your dad will notice the song :D

  • grumpys1daughter that sounds lovely!!

nicolax 1 part butter to 2 parts icing sugar (g butter, 400g icing sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, spash of milk till yout get the right consistancy to coat a cake - Normally make mine really smooth so it doesn't pull the cake when I coat it.

Rubysmummy - A guy left from work and his plan was to go to turkey, buy a boat and then sail around the greek islands. So I made this (sorry its a huge pic...)

My daughter made a cake for a friend who was going to Australia for a few years. I don't have a photo I'm afraid, but she just made a square cake and then made Australian themed things out of moulding icing to put on the top. She made an Australian type hat with corks on, a boomerang, a kangaroo, an Australian flag, a map of Australia, a sheep and a koala. I think there were more, but I can't remember now. She was going to cut the cake into the shape of Australia, but decided it would be too difficult to ice. Her friend loved it and didn't want to cut it!

Made the Good Food Easy Vanilla cake last night and it is AMAZING! Will definitely be my sponge of choice now for cakes! Just wondered if anyone had used this recipe for a Giant Cupcake?

    Thanks!
