Can someone reccommend what the best colouring is for use in sugarpaste and buttercream the black and orange paste ones I bought just wouldnt go a deep enough colour wanted orange and black buttercream and fondant but the nearest I got was peach and grey thanks

I use Sugarflair and have never had any problems getting bold colours. Party Animal on Ebay sually have some good deals for them.

This week's cake is for a "bring and share" lunch at church today. It's a light fruit cake (off bbcgoodfood.com) with a layer of marzipan (yuk) under the icing

There is an extra black sugarflair colouring that you can buy. It does do the trick.

Red, brown and black are quiet difficult to colour deep enough. But always use the more concentrated colours like sugarflair as they really give you better results :)

That's ace! Were you tempted to sneakily put a 6-1 on instead of the 5? :P

Ive just been asked by my work today to make a cake for Friday for 300 people!!! EEEEK. Too good an opportunity to just say no to. Ive been pricing it up and I think it will cost about £110 in ingredients so taking in to account the time and work that will need to go in to it from now to then Im thinking of asking for £300. It seems like a lot but its only £1 a head which to me does not sound unrealistic at all. Any opinions?
  • Thanks Nat and squishy will try and get some of them xx

It is suggested that the price for a cake is about 2-3 times the cost of the ingredients, so your costing sounds perfect! With that size, you could probably add another £30 to it without it being unreasonable.
Good luck, it sounds like a fun cake to make! :)
