Hello. Could anyone please point me in the direction of where to being making a birthday cake. My OH is 35 next week and I'd love to make him a cake in the shape of a tractor but I've never make one before!!

You tube is where I learnt most of my cakey skills. Bbcgoodfood.com have brilliant cake recipes. I always use their easy vanilla cake one.

Is the easy vanilla cake quite sturdy? I'm dying to try it out as it sounds delicious. Hoping to use it for my daughters birthday cake if it turns out well but just wondered how well it would take the sugarpaste and if it would be ok for stacking (although, i know the dowels and board should hold the weight). I normlly use madeira cake.

Loving the cupcake too! Is it iced with lots of little swirls that you would do on a normal sized cupcake? It looks fantastic!

    Thanks.

    Hiya,

I've been making cakes for our little football team on sundays and have started to really enjoy doing it.. the cakes ive done really are nothing to shout about but they do sell well in the footie cafe which is nice as the money goes back into the team. I would really love to learn more about decorating cakes but havent a clue where to start!

How did you learn? Did you go down the self-taught route, learning as you go, or did you do a course? x
