Yeah she was really surprised. Wasnt expecting it at all. I took it in before dinner and then they brought it out with our first drinks so that she knew not to order pudding and have cake instead0

Sorry for jumping in here.
Anyway its my hubbies 40th coming up and we are having a party on the 30th of October a few days before his actual birthday.
I was thinking of making him a cake as thats what he has asked for. He would maybe like some chocolate sponge cake (which should be easy enough to do though I'm no expert in the kitchen) anyway for our engagement a few years back he made me a load of cup cakes with a letter on each one spelling WILL YOU MARRY ME
I was thinking of baking a chocolate sponge cake with that shop bought chocolate icing stuff in the middle, then putting cupcakes (all with different things on like some with aerobubble on, some with icing on and some with broken cookies or chocolate or fruit ontop) all round the cake and all over it.
Does anyone know anything or anywhere I can buy some like sticks or mettle things I could put in the cupcakes and poke into the main cake. I kinda want to cover the whole sponge cake with these fairy cakes/cupcakes.
Anyone got any advice. My dad thinks I'm going to too much effort and should just get some cheap Tesco cake and be done with it, what do you think is he right?
PS love all the photos so far, wish I had those skills and the imagination to come up with such great cakesMatthew, Izzy, Suzie, Harry, Darwin. My husband my cats, the main things that matter in my life...0 -
If I understand you correctly, you're going to take the cupcakes out of their paper cases? If so, you can use normal plastic drinking straws or bamboo skewers... personally my own man wouldn't appreciate the effort so I would go with a shop bought...but if your man is the appreciative type then go ahead & spoil him!0

He said he would much prefer a home made cake, and if that's what he wants, if its his birthday then that's what he is gona get. I think the idea of the cupcakes is more for me and to see if I could actually pull it off more then anything.
Thanks for the suggestions will try the skewers, why I didn't think of them I don't know, just thought there might be something more suited to the job.Matthew, Izzy, Suzie, Harry, Darwin. My husband my cats, the main things that matter in my life...0 -

Here are some Halloween Cookies I made at the weekend for my Kids. I copied the idea from some cookies I saw in Copelands Bakery.
It's just a home made chocolate cookie cut in half, a splodge of nutella inside and some sweetie fang teeth, 'eyes' are smartees and stuck on with a small blob of nutella.
Going to make some more for the Scouts Halloween party.
Zippy x
