Hi I used to have similar problems Try reducing the fat in your recipe, if the fat is ok its most certainly the liquid try reducing the liquid in your recipe.

  • Hi Everyone

Im after a bit of desperate last minute advice about making a cake for my mums birthday next week ... shes had a rough year so I want to make a bit of a fuss but Im a complete novice other than with victoria sponges!! lol

I want to make her a simple 1/2 tier square cake that looks like a present with a bow. Am I out of my depth or is this fairly easy?
Im off to the cake shop tomorrow to grab everything I need just wondered if someone has a tried and tested recipe they have used or directions for how to get it looking like apresent. Ive never used fondant or anything along those lines so will be a complete first time attempt for me . Any advice would be fantastic!

Thank you :) and I promise to post a pic once Ive attempted haha

    Hiya
I am happy to help you, pm me and I can help you with instructions. I have made them in different styles examples below. You dont need a lot of fancy equipment, I have a ribbon cutter but you do not have to have one, a pizza wheel can do the job,

    Hiya!

Well, my computer isnt really working properly at the minute so I can't upload any photos but I've managed to make a giant cupcake and a sponge iced with sugarpaste and decorated with sugarpaste circles - not sure if they tasted any good as I gave them away!

I've just made my first ever batch of cake pops too! Decorated some of them with colourburst candy melts. The candy melt was really thick so I thinned it down a bit with some milk which seemed to work! I used the Silver Spoon buttons for the rest - some strawberry pink ones with purple shimmer glitter and some orange (colour and flavour) ones - some with black and orange sugar strands and some with green tic tacs ready to be turned into jack o' lanterns when they dry. The silver spoon buttons were easier to work with and taste fantastic (and only 98p a pack!). I really enjoyed making them and can't wait to try them again!

Next up is a racing car birthday cake for my middle son (did a gruffalo for youngest DS who was one last week), some carmel cupcakes and some baking for halloween I think! Got DD's 9th birthday next month too and she's still undecided about what cake she'd like!

Now, if only I didn't have to work I could spend more time making cakes!

Sorry if I've gone on a bit and bored you all! Will post some pics as soon as!

    Happy weekend everyone!

Does anyone have a good baileys cupcake recipe? I have tried 2 now from the net and both have been nothing special, I am not confident yet to play with the ingredients myself :)

Made some cakes this weekend, I made my own version of the baileys ones, I just made a coffee cupcake, them put holes in and poured a bit baileys in, they were lovely and moist, then done baileys frosting :)

Done the choc ones for the kids, the kitchen smelt divine :)
