Some fantastic cakes on here as always, never made one for a whille but had a long week this week making 2 cakes for my Ds as he was having a family party and a school party. Wanted a great white shark cake so after scouting around found the poster of Jaws made into a cake my DS loves the blood and gore and requested a full Barbie doll complete with blood and guts we compromised with just a arm .....

Then for his school party we decided on something a bit tamer so as not to scare the girls....

I made a playable Angry Birds cake earlier this "Summer" (if I can call it that...) (inspired by http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2011/02/21/playable-angry-birds-birthday-cake-video/)

Was so much fun, unfortunately its meant that no cake I've made since has had a chance at stirring up any kind of excitement :(
There were ALOT of very hyper children after eating all that bright food colouring though! ;)

    (hope the link works)

    Wow that is amazing :)

In Bristol, they were on their own on an aisle end.. randomly... I had to ask someone where they were. May be worth calling your local, good luck!

For people who make cake pops (Annie I'm looking at you! :D) I was in Tesco tonight and the new range of baking goodies there have in there includes strawberry and orange flavour drops that you melt, they look like candy melts to me, but not sure if you have seen them or not? They are 99p, and this is the link to them on their website - http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=271260426 and http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=271258539

They also had these as well, milk and dark chocolate melting pouches, you put it in a cup of hot water, and then just snip off the corner and use the melted chocolate, these are only 89p http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=271261287 and http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=271261039

Gonna have to try these out when I get paid!! :o
Bit more info re these on the baking mad site http://www.bakingmad.com/blog/2011/08/new-silver-spoon-products-2/ might have to look out for them.
    Booo!!!
  • Hey everyone, ive not been on here for ages!! I have been asked to do a christening cake and i want to try and attempt a 2 tier one, can anyone give me any pointers on what i need to do. Do i make the bottom one say an 8" and the top a 6" (im saying 8 and 6 becase these are the only bakin tins i have) or do i need a bigger difference. Also what is it that i need to put on the bottom of the top cake - some sort of board?? i have bought some plastic rods from M&S which i hope ill be able to use to prop it up - is this right?? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
