What do you mean clean the cake up? Is it icing sugar stains? I brush vodka over the cake to clean up and add a little sheen. Don't worry the alcohol evaporates very quickly, leaving a colourless, tasteless, clean finish

Ah yes I heard about that, but a family member has a severe allergy to alcohol, quite unusual I know but generally it means I can't use vodka.

Just use a small amount cooled boiled water then.

...haven't been on here for ages. After my Trex frosting question, I've converted to the dark side and back again... now I like to dabble with both butter and trex...

But as soon as I came round to the idea of using trex, all my local Tesco's stopped stocking Trex, ASDA never has (near me) and Sainsburys is very hit and miss.... Does anyone else have trouble getting hold of it...

(ive tried finding white flora and thats totally elusive, ive never seen it ever, anywhere!!!! :o)

Don't know if its already been mentioned since I last checked in, ASDAs new baking range is awesome. They stock all the food colour pastes and LOADS of different sprinkles and cupcake cases (and boxes) now... they even stock Sugarpaste Hardener powder stuff. (can you tell I'm excited/spent a fortune???) :rotfl:

    hi
just wondering if you could help me. I've got to make a cae ( first one for people i dontknow) and make a vibrant coloured rainbow.
is the above white colouring that youve coloured yourself and if so what did you use to colour them please? I've seen pastes and gels but i've no idea whats best or how to do it !

also making buns around the outside which ill put butter icing on the top and which is best to colour that?
sorry for all the questions but if i buy the wrong stuff it will get expensive!!!

For the yellow I used the icing colours you get in hobbycraft and I found it went really yellow really easily. Its wilton colours. They dont have them all on their website but this is what they look like

    http://direct.hobbycraft.co.uk/search/Wilton%20Concentrated%20Icing

You can also use the same colouring for the buttercream :)

    WOW!!!!! They are fab!!!
  • For people who make cake pops (Annie I'm looking at you! :D) I was in Tesco tonight and the new range of baking goodies there have in there includes strawberry and orange flavour drops that you melt, they look like candy melts to me, but not sure if you have seen them or not? They are 99p, and this is the link to them on their website - http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=271260426 and http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=271258539

They also had these as well, milk and dark chocolate melting pouches, you put it in a cup of hot water, and then just snip off the corner and use the melted chocolate, these are only 89p http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=271261287 and http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=271261039

Gonna have to try these out when I get paid!! :o
You're so very special, I wish I was special

I just came on to ask about these as I saw them in asda and wondered if they were the same thing as candy melts? Going to have a go at cake pops next week! Cupcakes and a giant cupcake getting done today.
  • Those angry bird cakes are the best things ever haha :D
