So Ive been planning for weeks to make my friend a small single tier birthday cake as I know she was going to make some cupcakes herself, but somehow today it turned into a rather large two tier cake oops. Its huge!

  • Also this weekend I made the cookie monster cupcakes. However I found when I was piping the tops (I did it with buttercream as I dont like coconut) the mixture seems to seperate abit in the piping bag, so it looks like it had white streaks in it. I use disposable piping bags. Has anyone had this happen before and know how I might prevent it?

This is caused by your hand being too hot and so the marg melts, it's happened to me before (I use Stork too).
I find it helps if I only half fill the piping bag (or less) so that my hand isn't on the mixture for too long or I stick my hand under the cold tap for a bit!

I usually use stork (or the supermarket own brand equivalent) and it seems fine to me. Can't compare it to butter as I've never used it.

Same here. Always use Stork as that's just what I always have in the fridge and tastes ok to me :)

Well I made my buttercream with stork last night and it tasted just fine but was quite runny. I did throw a splash of milk in like I normally do when I used butter but I guess thats not really needed with stork. Had to put it in the fridge to set a bit before I could use it to skim my cake but taste wise its yum :)

This is my latest creation, made for my friend's little boy. I didn't make the Thomas, that's beyond my skills.
