What a simple recipe Themeone. A perfect piece of advice for the young ones that are too lazy to get to work in the kitchen.

At the moment I have my youngest making chocolate self saucing pudding in the miicrowave. Yours could be the next step on the long ascent to adult baking skills!
  • Does anyone collect the cake decorating magazine? Is it worth having?
  • ok so this is a perfect time to have stumbled across this thread. I am slowly accruing a list of treats to eat and will be taking a stroll into town as soon as my evening schedule allows. exercise, tick, my mans coming over, tick, satisfy cake cravings, (preemptive) tick

Even though this hasn't been used in a while, I can't find another! So I thought I'd post to let all you bakers/decorators know of some bargains to be had in Home Bargains :) I've posted on the Home Bargains thread of the Grabbits board, but thought that some of you may not see it, so here goes!

They have an assortment of decorating consumables at the mo - edible lustre dust, (pink, lilac & green) glitter (called sand), dragees (pearls) in different colours and loads of different sprinkles (hearts, small chocolate balls, hundreds & thousands type etc). Most are 59p (I think the larger tubs are 99p) . Along with their collections of cupcake stands, cake cases (all sorts), boards and boxes, it seems to be the place to try first if you're into cake decorating.

Hi, I need a bit of help please. I've never really done a decorated cake before but I'm adamant that I want to make my littles boys cake this year.

I want to make a 3D yoshi cake (like this one http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/2011/03/01/homemade-cake-version-of-yoshi-is-an-oilers-fan/) but what would be the best cake to make. I want to make a chocolate one but what one is easiest to carve?

Also, any tips on the actual carving?

    Thanks.

http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/8531/foolproof-sponge-cake.aspx This one got good reviews.

I normally just use a regular all-in-one recipe, use about a triple quantity and bake it in a roasting tin I have - I find it gives me enough quantity of cake to fiddle with, and I can add layers together or cut away/around to get the shape and size I want, but I'm not much of an expert.
Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!
