Hi if your worried you can put the cake in the fridge, however you need to make sure not to handle the actual cake when you take it out of the fridge as you can damage the fondant, cake should b fine left out as the previous person said the icing seals it, just thought I would mention as it is actually warm at the moment ;-)0

my son is entrusting me to make his wedding cake!!!! i have really only nade a couple but I am ok with the covering with fondant bit its just a base recipie I need help with?
There are going to be 3 tiers (not stacked) and are going to be eaten after the meal so was thinking a sponge base as opposed to fruit.
The bride would ideally like a chocolate cake and some other different cakes for the other 2 . would a maderia cake be the safest bet for a cake that is going to be fondant covered? what do i do about the different flavours?? any ideas or reciies would be gratefully received as I want to do a small one to start with as a run through.
Also how far in advance could i make them? one day? two days?? thanks so mch0 -

Hi mrs baggins
I did the following for our cake;
12in fruit
10in chocolate
8in madeira
6in fruit
I made the two fruit tiers about 6 weeks before the reception (before we flew to Vegas!) and the other two I made 3 and 4 days before.
The fruit recipe I used is BBC Good Food's Fig and Honey cake here, which is gorgeous as it's a bit lighter than other fruit cakes. The chocolate cake was Lindy's Chocolate fudge cake here and the madeira was also her recipe, here.
I practiced both by making the 8in cake as directed and they came out perfectly, although the madeira did take a lot longer to cook than directed due to the paper around the tin! (I'd already made the fruit cake for Christmas so didn't need to practice that one)
The madeira has lemon added which tastes fab, or you could leave it out for a more vanilla flavour. I also considered red velvet cake for one layer but decided this was too close to chocolate and went for the madeira in the end! I think you can flavour a plain acke like madeira with pretty much anything, maybe google for ideas?
As far as I know, if the cakes aren't going to be stacked you can use any type, think of the sponge cakes you buy in shops. However mine were to be stacked so I chose denser cakes.
Lindy's site says the cakes last two weeks, if un-iced in an airtight container, if iced then stored in a cake box. She recommends 1 week to decorate and one to eat!

I am organising a table top/craft fair and i will be having a cake sale. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend some good cake recipes? I was thinking of tray cakes, cake pops, cookies and cupcakes
Some cakes that can be made in advance would be good.
Thanks in advance0 -

that looks so yummy Lindseyandmatthew!
Does anyone on this thread make anything printed onto rice paper? I was going to order off ebay but the lady is taking too long to get back into contact. I am wanting a liverbird so i can put it onto a liverpool cake shirt i am going to attempt to make? Or does anyone know of a way of getting the liverbird onto the shirt? (i'm not very good at drawing so don't think this would be an option0 -

What cake do you make for your son who is loves his job in the brewing industry, fermenting apples, and whose birthday is three days after his own Spiderman-obsessed son's birthday? Why, you make..... a Ciderman cake!! (Thanks to the earlier poster for her fabulous Spiderman cake that I borrowed heavily from :-)Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0
