Oh dear I need help. Your cakes look fab but I can't even bake mine. I am using an 8884 oz recipe with 2 tablespoons of milk and a teaspoon of vanilla. Cake is taking longer to cook than book suggests but it comes out looking all risen and fab but it soon becomes flat as a pancake. Please help as I need to have it ready for this afternoon arghhhhhh.0

Hi, what size tin are you using?
Sounds like a 7 inch round... if it is I would use
8oz soft butter/marg
9oz caster sugar
8oz SR flour
4 eggs
2 tbsp cold water
Bake for 1 hour 10 mins at 160 C
Hope that helps!Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0 -
Ok 1 hour 10? There lies my problem. Slightly different from the time in my book Andy 50 minutes isn't quite long enough. You would use water not milk? Any reason (just curious)0

Thanks stressed out mum. The time was the problem. Not perfect but it isn't too bad. The iced cake (IMO) looks quite good and I am really pleased with it. I would post a picture if I knew how0
