  • Hi all

I've been admiring all your lovely cakes - you're all so talented!

I was hoping someone could help me - I'm going to make a cakes for my little ones birthday but i am a novice baker! I was thinking about a vanilla cake with buttercream and covered with fondant. Does anyone have any idiot proof recipes?? I found one for a Victoria sponge but then a friend mentioned it might not support fondant well?

I'm also worried about a Victoria sponge going dry if I have to make it a few days before hand to give me time to ice and decorate. Is it right I have to leave the iced cake for a while ( a day, 12 hours? ) before I can decorate to give it time to dry?

As you can see, I'm a bit clueless so any help would be muh appreciated!

You want a Madeira cake - I've linked to a brilliant recipe a bit further up somewhere.

As Mildred1978 said you could use a madeira or google easy vanilla cake recipe from the bbc, it is lovely
  • Thanks guys, Had a look at both. I'm not usually that keen on maderia cake so I think I might give the easy vanilla cake a go. You've made it brikbok? Did u make it one pan or two?
