Hi I was wondering if anyone has any foolproof recipes for 'no -bake traybakes/cakes' as I have to make some for my little girls school on Monday. They really need to be foolproof as I'm not very experienced. Thanks!

    Nigella Lawson's Rocky Road

These are really easy to do and don't involve any baking and they are gorgeous!

The recipe says 300g of best quality dark chocolate, however I always use Sainsburys basics milk chocolate which is only 30p for a 100g :money: I also always use Sainsburys basics rich tea biscuits which are only something like 20p per pack too :money:.

I can't believe I have only just found this thread!!!

I am a keen but totally amateur cake maker. Confident that they taste good but haven't mastered a trully professional finish (although my children always appreciated them as they grew up). Avidly watch ace of cakes and all the cake making programmes with envy. Shall now be glued to this thread.

Anyway, I want to make a 21st birthday cake (sponge mixture) this week but would appreciate some ideas. He's a keen rugby player but I wanted to be more adventurous than the usual rugby pitch! I need to finish it by Friday.

Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks in advance

    Hi everyone,
I'm after a bit of advice :) I have been asked to sell cupcakes at a craft fair on Sunday and I have decided to do 4 to 5 different flavours and was thinking that 100 cupcakes should be enough but I have a wedding all day saturday from 9 am to 1 am the following day(sunday) but really don't want to have to pull an all nighter to make all the cupcakes, do you think if i made the cakes on the friday and iced them on the sunday morning they should be ok? Should say I have never done a fair before so don't really know what to expect or even what to take with me lol
    Thanks

Do you have all the necessary qualifications and insurance to be selling cakes to the public? That's the first concern!

Although I don't have any formal qualifications, I do have food and Hygiene certificates and I am registered with my local environmental health and I also have insurance. Is there anything else I need?

    Hi Everyone
I am after some advice from all you wonderful bakers.Seeing all the pictures has really inspired me. It's my sisters birthday next week and i really wanted to make her a cake. Problem is I don't really bake. She loves coconut-so i was thinking about making a coconut cake. So far I have googled recipes-so bbc/martha stewart/nigella,etc. So far i have brought coconut milk,butter,self-raising flour, vanilla pods, sugar, flaked almonds. Still to buy-fresh double cream, coconut(fresh or desiccated). Questions-do i need to buy anything else? Any fail-proof recipes anyone could recommend would be great. Would coconut cake taste nice?
Thank you in advance to all.
  • Hi all not been on for a while but as always all the cakes are fantastic and emmzy you should be proud of Peppa Pig.

lmb4wcb I should think that if you make them Friday and ice on Sunday that should be fine, I would think preferably keep them in airtight containers if you have enough.

Zara77 never had or made a coconut cake, if you do make it please let us know what it was like.

Can thoroughly recommend Ina Garten's (Barefoot Contessa) recipe ;).

  • My mum asked me to make a cake to say thank you to her team in work for completing something they've been working on for a while. As it is last minute (for tomorrow!), have decided not to do a sponge with roll out icing on. Have decided on the a chocolate cake with a fudge or white chocolate buttercream. I was thinking of decorating it with chocolate fingers around the outside and maltesers on top - but was wondering what people thought of this for a quick thank you cake. It doesn't need to say thank you, just basically be a cake.

I remember someone posting a malteser cake a few pages back - sorry can't remember who it was - what did you put between the fingers/maltesers and cake? Was it just buttercream?

Also, has anyone got a nice chocolate fudge filling or buttercream recipe? Or even a white chocolate buttercream recipe that I can use to stick the chocolate on?

Or do people think it is a bit naff doing a choc cake like this?!

    Thanks!
