As it is last minute (for tomorrow!), have decided not to do a sponge with roll out icing on. Have decided on the a chocolate cake with a fudge or white chocolate buttercream. I was thinking of decorating it with chocolate fingers around the outside and maltesers on top - but was wondering what people thought of this for a quick thank you cake. It doesn't need to say thank you, just basically be a cake.
I remember someone posting a malteser cake a few pages back - sorry can't remember who it was - what did you put between the fingers/maltesers and cake? Was it just buttercream?
Also, has anyone got a nice chocolate fudge filling or buttercream recipe? Or even a white chocolate buttercream recipe that I can use to stick the chocolate on?
Or do people think it is a bit naff doing a choc cake like this?!
Thanks!
Lovely idea - sure it will be really popular.
Did one for my hubbies birthday & he loved it. I coated in buttercream, then put on fingers/maltesers.

Hi everyone, been folowing this thread for a while and love the ideas people come up with!! so I was hopiong to pick your brains
My sons going to be 10 on 6th oct and he's car mad! I asked what he would like for his cake this year and hes asked for one shaped like a turbo!!!

He loves plain sponge, chocolate and marble cake, I can do all these so baking isnt a problem, my main issue is the design....I was just after a bit of advice how some of you more experienced cake makers would go about this one. I tend to over think/complicate things like this lol
Thanks for any advice

may be you could use the photo to get something printed on an icing sheet (not the rice paper ones) then cut round the image and put on a shaped cake iced in white fondant, you can get some lustre dust for the cake as while to make it shiny.0

Thanks Julie, any idea where i could get the pic put on an icing sheet? do you mean like when you give cake companies a photo of someone and they put it on the cake for you?0 -

Hi,
I have a cake printer. Icing sheets are the same things that you see on photo cakes in the supermarkets.
I am just doing a football shirt cake for my son at the moment and the badges on the shirt are printed onto icing sheets.

how do you get a picture on a post?“You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” ― Dr Seuss

Hello,
I've been a lurker for a while now, i've made a few cakes before, but my maderia recipe is abit hit or miss...either nice or total failure to bake! However somehow I opened my mouth and said that I would make a retirement cake for a college for 40 people eeek.
Does anyone have a fail proof maderia cake recipe that I could use that is yummy! I'm going to cut it in half and put jam and cream in it once its cooled then cover with butter cream and then put white icing on top, I then want to put a car made from cake and Icing on top of it, so thought about baking another maderia cake in a loaf tin. What quanties would I need for the loaf tin? I'm not sure on the main cake what size my tin is I think its a 10inch round, I dont think my 8inch square tin will be big enough. Any advice welcome!
Thanks in advance0 -
