• Wow! So many more amazing cakes since the last time I popped in! I have just finished a cake for a friends daughter. It's all buttercream as I just cannot seem to get on with covering a cake with fondant! Hopefully I will get there soon :o
great cake!! i actually prefer the ones without fondant i hate the taste and texture.

Hello all

I was on here looking for some help really!

I am baking a cake for my Hubby's 40th in 2 weeks. I usually do fondant and sugerpaste but have a cigarillo covered one in mind for this special occasion.

He would like a lemon cake and I have a lovely recipe to use which has worked in the past but I need some help please?

I have an 8 and 7 in round tin to use and am ok on how many cigarillo's this will cost but I am not sure what to do to decorate the top as I want it to look awesome but don't think shavings of white chocolate would have the wow factor?

My inspiration is the Lorraine Pascale cake with Raspberries but they aren't terribly manly are they? Figs may look awesome but not go with Lemon...

Could anyone help please? I am starting to panic now!

To be honest, cigarellos aren't very manly!!!

I'm assuming you're using white cigarillos? What about a tower of white Ferraro rocher?

Or something like this?:

Hi Ladies

Think am going to screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeam! just spent 3 hrs making 19 letters with tappits!! Oh my gosh I will not be using them again it looks so easy on you tube howvever whatever I did the letters either stuck in the tappit, broke or went flying accross the dining room!

I put gum trag in the fondant to firm it coated the tappits in icing sugar rolled it VERY thin, rolled it thick, rolled it medium even coated the tappits in trex in the end I had to get the shape of the letter from the tappit and cut around it with a cocktail stick:rotfl:Why on earth are they called Tappits should be called smashitts:rotfl:

Sorry rant over thanks for listening going to sit in a darkend room now to collect myself:p

Aaw awesome don't give up! I've just popped on n spotted your "rant" I use "florist paste" with the tappits. U only need a tiny bit it's a bit pricey but think renshaws have brought a much cheaper version out. You roll it really really really thin so thin that you can see through it then leave if for five/ten minutes then use the tappits. Works brill:)

Off now to catch up on everybodies fab creations. Quick word about the prospero - go for it they are amazing. A few of us have them on here I've only ever heard good reviews :) Of course I'd love a shiny red kitchenaid but could probably get half way to Australia with the cost of them!B0CF4AD6-FE7B-4BB1-9E05-3B77FE28D161-10873-000007E6BF5E5DC5.jpgth_465450D6-A30B-4012-A432-8CF9C8B1D7AA-10873-000007E6C307E19C.jpg

Hi ladies just had a quick catch up as not been on for a while some fab cakes again :)
Whoever asked if we went to classes or are self taught, I am self taught and still learning on the job :D I personally think it has to be the best way although I would like to find a class to learn how to make sugar people etc.
Awesome 2 - regarding the Tappits I feel your pain, I could throw it up the window by the time I have finished the lettering, I haven't tried with florist paste though and to be fair that is what is recommended.
Here is a recent cake made for a fund raiser for the local hospital

great cakes once again ladies. I too am self taught, just through doing the cakes and watching vids on you tube. i would love to go to a proper class one day and make sure what i am doing is correct, but i haven't had any complaints so far!!

Awesome, I also hate tappits with a vengeance. never tried them with floral paste so will give that a go. I have now invested in clikstix, seriously they are soooooooo much easier to work with, press into the paste and "clik it" to release. havent used my tappits since to be honest.

ps i got mine from party animal on ebay, they are £6 for one set, or you can get the upper case, lower case and numbers for £16.50.
You're so very special, I wish I was special
