lovely cakes monkeymagic, legendmum and the mango. really like the 80th cake monkeymagic, and legendmum, well done on your first sugarpaste cake, its great!!
awesome, i would think 200g would cover it, i presume you mean 152mm cake board? it wouldnt have to be as thick as if you were covering a cake, It cant hurt to try it but dont stick it to the board until you're sure, then if its not enough then you wont have wasted it.
So, my cruise ship cake is now finished and just been picked up. Really hope the recipient likes it!! heres some pics -You're so very special, I wish I was special :dance:0 -
Thanks for the help! I have one more question, decided to change it to a "white chocolate cream gateau" from the same book. The recipe calls for "white chocolate buttons (melts)". I found some candy melts in the kitchen cupboard, they are wilton white candy melts, but they say vanilla flavour.
Does this mean they are not white chocolate, or are they white chocolate - really confused! The other option is could I use Milky bar and melt that instead?0 -
Moosetastic Your cake is fab it must of took ages to make it are is the table and the lounger made of fondant too its fab.

Candymelts are not choclate they are simillar to chocolate and are used mostly to cover cake pops. They are a lot easier to work with than chocolate I have had the vanilla one before and it tastes like milky bar chocolate. If you are using them for cover a cake I found it best to melt them in a bowl over some hot water keep the bowl over the water otherwise it starts to set quickly. Some people melt them in the microwave but when I tried they kept burning.
Depends on what the recipe says to what you want to use really the choic is yours you could try the melts to save buying extra chocolate0 -
Hi all, I was just after a bit of advice and wondered if someone here could help. I want to buy some milk chocolate cigarillos (or cigarellos) for a birthday in September and figure I need to order about 100 to cover a 9" cake taking into account any possible breakages.
The thing is, I've never ordered them before, and I don't have a clue as to which are the best and which are "cheap" chocolate. I want them to taste nice as well as not be crazy expensive, but chocolate varies so much from Cadbury's quality to vile tasting! Any ideas please?
I get mine from the Chocolate Trading Company - they're on quidco. Always brilliant. Made a 6 tier wedding cake with them a couple of months back. They're about £13 for a box which will cover an 8" cake. I'd order 2 to make sure you have plenty and allow for breakages.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

Thanks awesome, it took me all day saturday to sugarpaste it, then ive done bits every night until last night to make everything else. I made the icing figure and the palm tree last week. The lounger and table are plastic, unfortunately, i didnt have enough confidence to make them myself, i just got lots of dolls house little bits and pieces, like the parrots and the bunting which I love! The ship wheel and anchor were just jewellery charms from ebay, and the board is covered in coloured royal icing.
its a 15 inch board you say, hmmm not sure if 2 packs will cover it. its takes a 1kg to cover a 9inch cake so 500g may be pushing it, I dont know? How I cover mine is to clea it with alcohol on some kitchen paper to make sure its clean, then just to brush water on the board and then lay it on, so you could definately roll it out and lay it over the board to see if it fits before fixing it. you could also use some royal icing as well, I wouldnt use buttercream as it wouldn't be flat, if you know what I meanYou're so very special, I wish I was special :dance:0 -

Wow! So many more amazing cakes since the last time I popped in! I have just finished a cake for a friends daughter. It's all buttercream as I just cannot seem to get on with covering a cake with fondant! Hopefully I will get there soon0

I have done one class which was a beginners cake decorating class but the rest I have been self taught, with lots of help from this forum and you tube. With regards to mixers, if you can afford one a kitchenaid (not much change from £500), but I have a Kenwood Prospero which was under £200 and is great, I love it (although wouldn't say no to a Kitchenaid).
