Thanks Nat. Can I ask which lemon and carrot cake recipes you use? Trying to get more organised and try things in advance rather than 10 minutes before someone asks for one :D

Hello everyone, beautiful cakes,I adore coming on here and particularly like looking at the photos of the delicious bakes ;)
I know this question has been asked before but I am after your opinions on which mixer to buy,as I know quite a few of you have firsthand experience at the ones I am looking at.Top of my agenda is that it helps me make scrummy cakes and that it is not to faffy and is easy to clean in terms of taking apart.
I'm torn between the kenwood prospero, the kitchenaid (beautiful colours) and the kenwood firecracker. My absolute max budget is 420.
I bake alot from home and am considering setting up my own small cake business, but I bake by hand and have never used a mixer before.Do they mix the ingredients properley?Thank you :)

I was lucky enough to receive a kitchenaid as a present 7 years ago! doesn't time fly! I still absolutely love it as much as the day I opened it. I use it for bread, pastry, cakes, meringues, pasta etc. it's brilliant and so easy to clean with no nasty nooks and crannies like a food processor. The kitchenaid although a complete style icon is a real workhorse, it genuinely is a once in a lifetime purchase. There's a reason why so many professional kitchens use them. I can't comment on the others as never used them so all I can say is I would never part with my beloved kitchenaid and it's the best present I've ever had and I'm sure it will continue to take pride of place on my worktop and attract many envious glances for many more years!

I use the Good Food Zingy Lemon Cake It's delicious!

This is the carrot cake recipe I used:

    10oz (280g) Plain Flour,
    1 Teaspoon (5ml) baking powder,
1 Teaspoon (5ml) Bicarbonate of Soda,
    ½ Teaspoon (2.5ml) salt,
    2 Teaspoons (10ml) ground cinnamon,
    1 egg,
    2-3floz (60-90ml) milk or water,
    2 Tablespoons (30ml) honey,
4-5oz (110-140g) fine white granulated sugar or light soft brown sugar,
12oz (340g) Approximately 2 large carrots finely grated (or chopped in a food processor),
    1 Teaspoon (5ml) Vanilla Essence,
3 FL oz. (90ml) vegetable oil or 3 oz. butter melted,
2-3 oz. (60-85g) chopped walnuts or raisins optional.

Icing. (Traditional Carrot Cake style) optional:
2 oz. (60g) cream cheese softened at room temperature (or half cream cheese, half unsalted butter)
    4oz (110g) icing sugar sifted,
    ½ teaspoon 92.5ml) vanilla essence/flavouring.

    Method:

    1. Prepare tin.
    2. Pre-heat oven to 350F or 180C or
    Gas Mark 4.
    3. In a large bowl, sift together the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, salt and cinnamon.
    4. In a separate bowl, beat egg with a fork.
Add milk/water, honey, sugar, carrot and vanilla, followed by oil/melted butter, stir well.
    5. Pour all of liquid mixture into dry. Stir just until combined, adding walnuts/raisins during the final stir, don’t over stir.
    6. Spoon into tin. Bake for 60 minutes, until tops spring back when pressed gently. Allow to cool before icing. Stir icing ingredients together until blended add ½ teaspoon milk if needed.

It's a cupcake recipe so I think I'll double it for an 8" round as I made this in a 8" tin but it wasn't deep enough. Tasted amazing though!

Hey guys, thank you for your imput so far.I was looking online last night at the kenwood prospero and it does seem to tick the most boxes,a big one being budget!Becs I am so jealous that you have a kitchenaid, what colour did you go for?
My hubby pointed out that as this is my first mixer I should go for the prospero and meanwhile if I still want it,I should save up the pennys for the kitchenaid.
He also told me not to purchase one till our family hol was out the way (nxt week). But me being me I stumbled on the fact that this morning argos have got the prospero on offer at 20% off knocking it from 189 to 152ish.Now i'm torn as there are only two left in our local store in town.I've reserved it and it's waiting for me!But I feel guilty as I know my hubby wants me to wait.I'm worried it will be oos by the time we get back though. So tempted to pop in this avo and pick it up!

Like you other ladies I couldn't justify a kitchenaid :( But I love the prospero:) absolutely adore it. I had a twin motor breville before and thought I loved that! But burnt out two motors within a few months:( I've had the kenwood prospero since early janruary and polish it daily:)

lol, I had the breville then upgraded to the Prospero when it was on offer at sainsburys and nab it for £65. I love it! I havent polished my daily yet though!

Twinkles it's called ice and it's a sort of minty bluey green. It's been plodding it's way through 216 cupcakes for a jubilee street party at the mo! I hav the pasta attachment for it as well so homemade pasta takes less than 5 minutes! Make the dough in the bowl, add the roller attachment and fresh spaghetti, tagliatelle or lasagne sheets in no time at all. I had one of the manual pasta rollers and you have to be quite dexterous but because it's automatic on the kitchenaid it's a doddle!
