i bought a Kenwood Chef in December last year for around £160 on Amazon including delivery. Think it's a bit bigger than the Prospero and has an 800 Watt motor. The Kitchenaid looks prettier but doesn't have the power of the Kenwood Chef (300 Watt motor) and is about twice the price.

I'm a bit confused about the necessary motor power now :o. I have a 600w mini-chef which is great for small quantities, but gets heated v fast. It can't even make almond butter for me :(.

What power will be best for superlight cakes and icing? I thought Hummingbird recipes in particular asked for long whisking times, if I were to use my mini blender for 5 minutes I'm sure it would blow a fuse.

I think the kitchenaid is very durable because of it's gear system. You can hear it change as the mixture changes. James Martin was doing meringue on Saturday kitchen and he said that's how you know when it's mixed enough because you hear it change down. Mine is frequently on for 10-15 minutes when kneading bread and it's fine.

Well, today is my parents 25th Wedding Anniversary, I made their cake last night! The first cake I have ever decorated. The first time I have ever used fondant! Pics aren't great but they give you an idea!
Its Victoria Sponge. I made the roses myself too :)

Ooh Rachel you've done a great job well done you:) I bet your parents were delighted. What you making next?

Becs you are a lucky girl:) a kitchenaid pressie. Twinkles did you pick yours up? Or did you have second thought? Bindiboo get polishing :)

S23xy Ive made cake pops using my ordinary Madeira recipe but only because I freeze the off cuts from my cakes and make them from that. (if I can get them in the freezer cos DH loves the off cuts with or without custard)

Thank you for the kind words about Minnie:)

Awesome I baked two 6" cakes.
Drew around cake on one a piece of paper.
Fiddled about finding something round and the right proportion for her ears.
Used a glass in the end.
Used the glass as a template to cut two circles from cake two.
Lined them up to make ears.
Jam,buttercream layers and crumb coat .
    Covered with white fondant.
Then my paper with the circle head and two circle ears I drew her face.
Rolled black fondant cut around paper template with craft knife.
    Then flesh coloured fondant.
Then the eyes, mouth, tongue all cut with craft knife.
Made her nose with block of black fondant and sprayed with glaze.
    Piped outline and eye lashes.
Fix nose with a dab of royal icing.
    Made bow, attached.
    Done
