It's all gone horribly wrong nanamia
Got it all iced and then my inspiration left me. I can't make the footballers for love nor money. It's the first time I've had a cake-tastrophe. I've now got an iced cake and no idea what to do with itI'm so disappointed.

Ooh no Nat - right think realistically wot about just doing a figure of ur hubby in the football strip (kit) don't be disappointed. In my experience cakes for the ones we love most always end up giving us the most trouble:( Your hubby doesn't kno what was planned and will be delighted with anything uve made specially for him:-) Don't stress urself out uve still gotta work tonight and will end up not enjoying hubby's birthday at all:(
Get back onto google and imaging just one figure (hubby) it CAN be done. If that's giving you too much hassle get some ribbons in your hubby's team colours and wrap around the cake and wish him happy birthday:-)
Your DH would be upset if he thought it was stressing you out. It's supposed to be fun- I can say from my own experience cakes for those I love most (children, hubby, grandchild & best friend) ALWAYS give me most trouble too:( I get cross with myself n tell myself I kno the date etc etc I've had all year to plan etc but they still go pear shaped:(
I'm really disappointed that I'm miles away n no help:(

DH is quite arty so if I'm stuck I usually ask him for advice!!!
The problem is that the cake isn't quite deep enough so the figures are having to be made smaller and are much more fiddly to put together. I think next time I would either make it deeper or make a half ball shaped cake so that the figures can lean against it, if you see what I mean?
You might just have saved the day with your suggestion of a DH figure though!!! I'm sure I can manage that!
I'm not having a good day today - got a stonker of a migraine and there's a big, fat bumble bee in my conservatory. Maybe I could swot it for the cake toppers ......
Thank you for your encouragement Nanamia! Your vibes have really helped to keep me focused and cheered me up! xxx0 -
Glad to hear it Nat I like to b useful :-) its rare!!!
Continuing to send inspirational vibes:-)

The first thing I thought of, since I can't make figures for the life of me, is to cut out shirt shapes in fondant icing coloured in his team colours and write on the shirt numbers/names of his favourite players.

:A ( my 4 year old is sat at the side of me and wanted to do him this face lol)
Thanks
I use stork (or the supermarket's own version of stork) and have never had a problem with it seperating or anything. i tend to make it up while the cakes are baking then refrigerate it for a while as it tends to get quite warm and soft from being mixed (i do it in my kenwood chef and beat it for quite a long time so its very soft, light and fluffy).0 -
Ladies, Please I need your help!!My hubby is 30 middle of April and I would love to make him a cake that looks like a chinese takeaway carton! Any ideas How I would do this? I can do basic baking/cupcakes etc but havent attempted anything like this!0
-
There was a page on here or on a previous thread about mixers does anyone have the link or know the outcome where the best place to buy my poor almost 40yr old kenwood just died and i really fancy a pink kitchenaid one but cant find it much cheaper than £400!!0

and for the chinese take away carton i would cut away a square cake to a kind of \__/ shape then cover in sugarpaste through a garlic press/ spaghetti maker to look like noodles and stick some chopsticks in?0
