Can anyone give me some tips for doing a tiered cake?Never done one before and want to do one for my sons 13th birthday next month.Don't need one as it'll only be the two of us,but because he's a special boy,it's a special birthday and he has nobody to come to his party I want to make him a special cake to kinda make up for it (not that I can make up for his dad going but to him it'll be something really special)
Planning on having black tiers and bright green tiers with a space invaders design. So have it all designed in my head but, having never done a tiered cake before, would like some tips
Thanks in advanceIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
How many tiers were you thinking? I've only ever done one before for my Mum's 60th. Again there weren't that many of us but I wanted a 3 tier cake for the look. So I made 2 tiers and had a polystyrene dummy for the top tier. I watched videos on YouTube about how and where to insert the dowel rods on the cakes.0

I've just ordered some sugarflair gel colours, so anyone got a good recipe, or is it just basically a victoria sponge into different colours?

I got a text at 7.30 this morning to say it was back in so I ordered 2 there and then. 2 hours later at work I was telling a friend and she went online to order one only to find they were out of stock again. I was so glad I hadn't waited!
I bought one on weds then got anoher when shopping today, could resist at this price. Still plenty in my local0 -
Hiya Nannyot9 and welcome I'm a newbie myself and can't post photos ( well I think) although noticed that makeyourmummyproud is a newbie who has posted photos so I maybe misunderstood ! Nannyto9 I'm Nana to two and that's a handful in itself but very rewarding and don't think I'd want it any other way :-) how do you manage to split your time between 9 little darlings? Never mind bake!! Good luck with the fair can't wait to hear how you got on :-)
Nat I can't take credit for posting the figure on YouTube link I think it was Bindiboo :-) but it obviously worked. Hope you both had a good day.
Moosetastic I've not tried one of the rainbow cakes but have seen the photos the look fantastic I'll be very interested to see how you get on I've an idea that my DGD2 will be having one as the very hungry caterpillar in December :-) Her birthday is Christmas week (20th) and we try and do something very none Christmassy to keep the two things separate !! Not sure of the amount of colourings in the cake tho. Just have to make sure shes not staying at mine that night- heh heh
Itching to bake this weekend something usually turns up to change my plans so I'm not making any for Sunday and we'll see what happens :-)The secret of Christmas
It's not the things you do at Christmastime
But the Christmas things you do

Hi I have been lurking on this forum for ages now and thought it was about time I joined in.
There are some lovely cakes on here.
For years I have made Pamper & Nappy Cakes for craft fairs etc. But for Christmas my hubby brought me a silicone mould alphabet and numbers. Each mould is approx 4.50" big.
I made a cake for my granddaughter spelling her name out in cake in January and since then things have gone mad. I am doing a craft fair this weekend with my other items and have decided to promote the cakes to, so have made a letter cake spelling out SAY IT WITH CAKE all in different colours to stand in the middle of the stall and have made a load of mini cup cakes as free tasters. So wish me luck.
Cant put a picture up as it wont let me as new member will try again later not sure how many posts I have to do first.
I really love these cakes - are they like these?http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400185754388?var=670005062102&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
I'm thinking of getting the letters and doing Happy 40th for him, they look greatmakeyourmummyproud wrote: »I finally got my cupcake carrier. Last two...Thank you bindiboo for the info. xxx

They hold 24. I haven't used mine yet but I'd say they look like they'd hold them well. Great value for money I think. I bought two!0 -

They hold 24 cupcakes or 12 muffins as the holder is reverseable0
