I have some mpg and xvid files I noticed the playback on the PSP using the sample spiderman trailer disc was very good.
The PSP is able to play converted mpg files. Check out the various PSP forums for more information.

Sorry for being rather THICK here, but now that i have upgraded my PSP to the 3.03OE-A firmware (all works ok), where do i place my game files?
Some are ISO's and some are in EBOOT format. I have looked at various forums, but have got myself well confused with the directories required - i thought this was going to be the easy bit !!
Thanks in advance for any help you can give this noobie... Del0 -

for iso games, make a folder in the actual main area of the psp and put the game in there. For the EBOOT format, place it in the psp>>game folder.0 -

Compressed PSX games, for starters. 3.02OE-B can't play compressed PSX games - only non-compressed PSX games. 3.03OE can play compressed PSX games, which means you can get more games on your memory stick. Also, it means you'll have sony's latest firmware (3.03), albeit an open edition version of it.In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?

Dark AleX has released 3.03 OE-B. What a glorious day this is. Well I thought I would write an article about this after reading asleetasXP post here on the forums. He has commented that this was a super easy install, typical of a DAX release. And now for the changelog:
Patched the firmware to allow decrypted mp4-AVC videos to play at 480×272 resolution.
pic0.png was not shown in psp isos. Fixed.
The speed functions were not dummied after setting the speed. This could cause the few games
that set the cpu speed not to run at the selected speed in the recovery menu.
Changed the structure of the program to have more free ram in game mode, sysmemp.prx removed, systemctrl.prx splitted into systemctrl.prx and vshctrl.prx.
Note: due to the inclusion of pic0.png, the iso cache has changed slightly; as a consequence you
will notice a slowdown the first time you access game menu after this update, just as if you have
modified the iso folder.
Change in docmaker:
A flag that lets increase the limit of 100 png’s to 1000 was found. (this is the real maximum
number of images that support the emulator document.dat reader).
The document.dat’s created with this version, can have any number of images between 1 and 1000,
and they will work in whatever 3.03 OE version.
only run the 3.03OE-B update if your psp currently has 3.03OE-A firmware or you may damage your psp!0
