Radiators are hot but the heating is not on

Hi
The valve has been changed now by a plumber.
Quick question, when the HW comes on should the entire CH pipe coming from the valve be cold when CH is off but HW is on? Or does the CH pipe still get warm? After turning on the HW none of the rads have been heated (all are now turned on) but the CH pipe from the valve is still warm to touch, the very bottom of the pipe is cold but the first half coming from the valve is warm.
Obviously the main thing is that the rads arent being heated with CH off, but just wanted to know if the above is standard?
Thank you to everyone who helped in this thread.0 -
Copper is a very good conductor of heat, thats why the first bit of the pipe is getting warm. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Hi,
From your description you have been fobbed off.
You need someone who knows what they are doing.
Have there been any alterations to the system since you have lived there?
How long have you lived in this property?

There's no trade secret, simply a matter of putting bungs in the cold feed and open vent in the CH header tank in the loft. I had to change on of these this morning, no drain down required (no joy with synchron motor). 10 minute bung job vs half a day's drain down...hmm!0

Does the system heat your water as well as the radiators?
If so is it fully pumped or as was usual at that time only the radiators are pumped and the hot water is gravity fed.
Shouldn't be any pressure build up as these are open vented systems.
BTW are you taliking about a motorised, thermostatic or manual valve? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
