Radiators are hot but the heating is not on

Could you perhaps give me some directions on how to do this?0

I'll try.
Buy a synchron motor from plumbers merchant (B&Q are dear).
Isolate electricity
Remove silver cover (one screw on the end) by pulling upwards
remove one (sometimes two) brass grub screws.
Be careful, they are fiddly and not magnetic so don't lose them!
Twist motor housing by about 5 to 10mm and remove.
Remove the two wires and use the new connectors supplied to connect new motor.
Offer up the little brass cog into the hole it came out of and twist back into position.
Replace brass grub screws (after some swearing)
Replace cover
Tighten cover screw on the end.

I was ok with all of that until the removing the motor housing and the wires. EEEEK.0

There are only two wires, both the same colour (either blue or orange)
Once you have the new motor in your hand it will become more obvious.
Sometimes its hard to visualise the written word. You have been reading.....another magnificent post by garethgas :beer:0 -
Well first off all I am going to try and wiggle the lever back and forth, see if that helps, also as obvious as it may sound I will try turning heating on without the hot water on and see if that does anything, if all this fails then I will have a little look at what you have suggested. Thanks0

If you wiggle it and it works...as soon as you turn it off/on it will be the same as before.
You're manually opening the valve instead of the motor doing it for you.
But have a go anyway, you might be lucky. You have been reading.....another magnificent post by garethgas :beer:0 -

That should read, 'the room or area containing the room stat should have no TRV'.
GSR.
It is not incorrect
The original statement was to do with having 2 lockshield valves to prevent pumping against a close system.
Your quote it for not having a TRV in the room/area of the thermostat not that a radiator that cant be shut off.
Both right to an extent but both not explained. Not Again0 -

Do yourself a favour.
Buy a very cheap multimeter & see if it takes a reading across the motor. If it does its not the motor.
By the way I had the same fault as you recently. It was the PCB board in the boiler that was sending out a live circuit where there shouldn't have been one.Not Again0 -
I honestly have no clue what some of the things are you guys are trying to explain to me, I need it in dumbed down laymans terms. Haha.
What should happen with that lever at the bottom of the motor part? Should it go along from AUTO to MANUAL on its own, if so when?0 -
If I hadnt been doing some work in the spare room last night I wouldnt have noticed this issue, so my question now is what are the implications of doing nothing about this? All radiators are switched off by the TRV's except for the one in the bathroom which I have manually turned down, but not off. So if when the hot water comes on for 2 hours in the morning and 1 hour in the evening and that one radiator heats up then cools down when hot water shuts off, then in the winter I turn all radiators back on they will all heat up when heating comes on which will be on along with the hot water - what problems would leaving it cause?0
