Radiators are hot but the heating is not on

I would be interested to know if ,when spraying WD40 all about the zone valve, any of it gets in the micro switch and burns it out.
Also how long it takes for the smell of it to burn off.
Once the OP has changed the sync motor he might find that it's the actual valve inself that's got dirt in it from when the rad was changed. It's stuck to the ball and allows a small passage of hot water to the c/h.
GSR.
This is quite possible. But OP was advised (by you) to try it and it seems not to be the case. I have explained how to change the synchron motor and he seems reluctant to go for that option.
I think your right regarding WD40. In fact, I'd go further and say do not use it! Its a de greasing agent. That means any grease/oil that helps seal something will be washed away and result in failure.
Whilst there could be several reasons for the problem, I still think the synchron motor is the most likely culprit.
Of course, not actually being there to check...I could be wrong.

You can probably manage for quite a while with just turning the radiators off. It will cost around £5-£10 pcm. However it WILL go sooner or later and you will have no hot water at all. Then you are into the realms of expensive immersion heat.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Well I will give it a whirl at wiggling it later, didnt have a chance last night, went to see Lee Evans.
This morning the hot water came on at 7am, the rad in bathroom heated up, but as soon as the hot water stopped firing up the rad cooled down.
As i say I will give it a wiggle, if no joy then I will do the suggestion of the meter tester / field meter thing. So if that says the motor is fine then I take it the motor is ok? And what else could it be?0 -
It could be lots of things. But until you can confirm what is/isn't working it would be pure guesswork.
Its been 2 days since your original post, lots of advice given and you've yet to spend 2 mins trying anything yet.
Let us know the results of your tests and we'll take it from there.
