I have a feeling that the 'cleartype' setting works better when your flat screen not set to the 'native resolution' on the screen. Otherwise for flat screens 'standard' is better.0

Thanks for tip. My LCD 2-yr old screen - I'm using Windows XP - is now incredibly sharp. Many thanks. More computer tips please.0

agree! setting the res to the same as your panel's native res should be a damn sight better result.0 -

Standard
Cleartype
Both with a screen resolution of 1024x768 and at 32bit, Native Res.
In my opinion cleartype wins all day long.0 -
That's really strange, Intel - to me, 'PC Wizard 2006' in the Cleartype example is fuzzy, but in the Standard one is pinsharp. I have a Compaq 15" TFT and run XP Pro.
I only exist in my own mind - if you can see, hear or read me, you are a product of my imagination.0 -

I think there is actually, as the older MS OSes lack the support
' Windows XP is Microsoft's first operating system release to include system wide ClearType support.' (http://www.microsoft.com/typography/ClearTypeInfo.mspx)
I am sure this could be bolted on, but it will cost you0 -

Try changing between cleartype and standard and then have a look
also if you wear glasses that can have an effect as cleartype has more
of a 2d depth of field variation.
Also have the screen resolution correctly set for your monitor (see monitor documentation) also Text size may have an effect aswell.
So have a fiddle with some of your settings.0 -

I would call the cleartype example 'smoothed' and the standard one 'jaggy'. I can see why you say 'fuzzy' rather than 'smooth' and 'pinsharp' rather than 'jaggy'. It is all in the eye of the beholder0 -

I also like CRT over TFT for clarity am I strange..
Im on TFT now. 0 -
I like CRT for photos, but for text it is LCD everytime. Much easier for the long day at the desk0
