Another suggestion i was given, (sorry, cant remember who from) was to heat up either her favourite food, or fish etc heating it releases more smell. It may entice her out of her hidey hole. Hope she comes back soon. I know what a worry it is.Unfortunately,
MONEY makes the world go round.

Just wanted to say that my sisters cat did this last week we were all so worried. She only ever stays in the garden or the neighbours garden, never gone anywhere near roads or anything and suddenly went missing for almost 2 days. My sister was frantic and said she just knew something bad had happened it was so out of character as she has never done this before. We made a facebook page, advertised as soon as possible with cats protection etc but we knew it was pointless as there could only be one reason for her not coming back especially as she hadn't eaten either.
My sister was sat watching tv on the second night quite upset when her cats face appeared in the patio doors!!! She had mud clumps in her paws as if she had been digging so had probably been on some adventure.
Don't give up! Cats do the strangest things out of the blue. You are possibly right in her hearing the loud noises and she's been spooked. Sending positive thoughts your way and hoping she comes home soon.:snow_grin Park Christmas Savings for 2011 £326.71

Hi everyone,
Still no news I'm afraid
I'm feeling a bit more hopeful after hearing all the stories about cats that have come back
I did manage to get some sleep last night so am feeling a bit better , although I'm still being sick
We are planning to go and look around the village this afternoon so I will keep you all posted...Mammy to 2 boys aged 5 and 20 -
Our little one went missing when she was only about 7 months old, I called her when it was really quiet everywhere and then heard her crying.
She had climbed over the fence into a garden at the back and couldnt get back over and they had gone away.
Hope you get her back soon and look after yourself and keep positive0 -
My friend's cat would go missing for about 6 weeks at a time some time. And he would always come back healthy so he must have been 'seeing another family' ha ha.
And once when I was younger, a friend asked me to pop in and feed her cat while her family was on holiday for two weeks. I went in and put the food out etc but noticed that it wasn't being eaten and was terrified as the cat still wasn't back by the time they were. It hadn't been missing before but it turned up ok about three weeks later. They think maybe it just got scared that someone else was in the house and that they weren't there.
Don't give up yet, or ever actually

Do you have a family dog that gets on with your cat?
S/he might find her more easily.
Is there someone who can search instead of you?
It would have to be someone the cat likes.
I don't think you should be out at this time, but I saw this:
"The best time to search for a lost cat is when the world is asleep. The best time-frame is around 2:00 a.m. Go out with a flashlight and food. ... shake a treat jar. You will be surprised how the sound can travel in the quiet of the morning, and oftentimes your cat will appear within minutes of the first can being opened. Enterprising cat owners have also recorded the sound of their can openers opening a tin of food, and played the tape over and over while looking for their lost cat."
"You want to get that shirt and those shoes really sweaty with your scent, in case you don't find your cat, because the shoes and shirt will help scent the cat home."
"If she has a canine friend, bring the dog outside, or take the dog for a walk around the neighborhood to see if the cat will come out and join you. Check the trees on your property; if you live near the woods, then the soiled litter is the best attractant for your cat. She will scent her scent over the wild critters and come to the comfort zone she is used to."
"Your cat will sense any stress coming from you, and may stay hidden until you calm down. Most cats go to ground immediately-which means they hide close to the home they know- unless they get chased off or scared away. If you can hold your emotions in check, you increase the odds in your favor."
If she is a cautious cat she might still be hiding: they will typically return to the point where they escaped from or they will meow when the owner comes to look for them. This behavior typically is observed either within the first two days (after the cat has built up confidence) or not until seven to ten days later when their hunger or thirst has reached a point where they will respond.
I know you are worried, but in a rural setting she is probably having a wonderful time; and just isn't ready to come home yet.
So she was initially spooked by the gunfire and strange dog.
That made her run off to a new area that had to be explored ... she'll have chased a butterfly and stalked a few squirrels.
She is having an adventure - it is what cats do.
I don't think she'll be hungry - sometimes they can come back even plumper.
The farmers won't mind a few less baby bunnies.

reading some of these posts reminded me of when Tara went missing a few years ago.....
as soon as i think they are 'missing' ( out of regular routine, not come in for tea etc etc ) i send a search party out ..........
i was in a builders yard near my house and i was calling her every 5 seconds that i was walking.... suddenly i heard a faint meeow but we couldnt see her and she never came to us......
we persevered and eventually we were led to where the sound was coming from and it was coming from a pipe!!! she had obviously been chasing something or something had chased her and she had ran into the pipe and got stuck!!! it was narrower(!) at one end.... we had to push something into the narrow end while son was at the other end and physically push her out..... it was a task and she was petified.......
so dont give up hope......
and look after yourself.....
like someone said, send someone else out to have a look and keep calling out xxxxxx0 -
Thank you all for the suggestions, stories and support

We have been round the village and someone said they saw a little black cat in the churchyard and someone else said they saw one near a farm that is a bit closer to where we live so hopefully at least one of these sightings was Mollie
I have emptied our Hoover in the garden and also in the back field behind our house. It was pretty full of cat hair so hopefully she will smell that!!!
We do have a dog but I think Moll would be more likely to stay hidden if we went looking for her with the dopg. Although they do get on to a certain extent, Mollie tends to keep her distance from the dog as the dog is only a year old and can be a bit giddy.
I'm feeling a little better today as we've not had any bad news about her, a couple of possible sightings and the stories you've posted on here have given me a lot of hope
