I take it nobody knows the sip settings?
I've now set up Firefly to work with 1899VOIP using the following settings:

Name: Whatever you like, e.g. 1899
    Network type: IAX
    Server: iax.1899.com
Username: 1899xxx [xxx=the primary number that 1899 is registered to]
Password: Your account number as notified in the registration email or invoice

Initial calls suggest that this works with less delay than the custom 1899 softphone, and as the service is free, well worth doing provided quality is maintained.

I have tried 1899's softphone but the distortion at the other end was dreadful.

I have also tried Firefly using the settings above which was much better.

I would now like to try X-Lite but the settings look very complicated. Could Toxteth_OGrady or somebody else give us some simple instructions?

    Any help much appreciated.

    Hi Artnada

I see you are on here too! Spooky!

Glad to see you are happy with Sipgate and 1899, as I said before if there is a way of getting something for nothing I will try my hardest to find it.

How you getting on with Firefly? I found it quite a good program.

If you come across any problems feel free to contact me!

This is the phone I am looking at getting:

Sipura SPA-841 it is a 2 line phone that can be upgraded to 4 lines.

    http://www.voiptalk.org/products/SPA-841+Business+Phone?sess=84a8032084353be917faa4d7b8c6cbe8

This is ideal as I have several Sipgate and a FWD number.

There was a phone I was also looking at that accepts 8 - 10 different accounts, though that is a little too much money at the moment.

I am also considering two Sipura 2000's : http://www.sipura.com/products/spa2000.htm connected to them two BT Converse 2025's : http://www.businessshop.bt.com/invt/baw113 this is if I can get the price right.

It looks as the 4-line SPA 841 is the ideal solution for me, though I will be looking into building an Asterisk box.

If you are thinking of getting a BT-101, it may be worth considering the BT-102 instead as that has a RJ45 pass-thru' port.

I have now started using Sipgate as my incoming landline call provider, and Call1899 for my outgoing call.

I downloaded the Software for 1899 a couple of weeks ago. I have tried quite a few times to make calls, but I don't hear any ringing tone, nor do the calls connect.

I receive the message that the call has "timed out". I have used VOIP with other services prior to this, but have always managed to connect. I am using dial-up and not Broadband, but have been told that it works with dial-up. Do you enter the digits in the normal way - 020 8123 0000
    (London destination)?
    Many thanks

Yes when using the 1899 service you dial the full number as per your post.

When you dial the number and initiate the call you should hear the cost announcement and then the ringing tone.

    Which software are you using?

If you have not tried the 3rd party version of Firefly then I would give that a go.

I've now set up Firefly for outgoing using 1899 VoIP and X-ten for incoming using Sipgate.

Configuration of the X-ten for Sipgate is here but you have to be signed up and logged in to access the link.

The USB handset I'm using is the TYN-200 available for £28 from Computer Solutions. Works fine.

Haven't got round to figuring out yet how to configure a second network on Firefly for Sipgate, or a second network on X-ten for 1899 so I can just use the one softphone for both incoming and outgoing. Might have a mess around today but any info the settings would be gratefully received.

If I get time to sort it I'll post back.

X-Lite doesn't allow configuration for 1899 IAX service.

3rd party Firefly allows both 1899 IAX and Sipgate SIP.

To add Sipgate numbers in Firefly

    Menu - Options - SIP

Enter the following details if not already there:-

    SIP Port: 5060
    RTP Port: 5000

    STUN Server: stun.sipgate.net:10000

Then choose one of the Network entries in Menu - Options - Networks:

    Network Type: SIP
    Server: sipgate.co.uk
Username: [Will be your SIP-ID, eg 9905555]
Password: [Will be your SIP-Password, eg Z9ZXCQWE]

User name and password can be found when logging onto the Sipgate website under My Account.

    RTP Port: 5000

I have my my RTP Port set to 8000 and that seems to work fine. Haven't got a clue what the dif is tho! ;)

Btw, thx everyone for your comments on this. After reading them, I was able to successfully set up Firefly, which has no third-party distortion whatsoever!! :)

Must say tho, didn't succeed in configuring x-lite for sipgate, but with sipgate working fine on Firefly, who cares! Would however be interested in knowing which is better, FF or XL?

3rd party Firefly is the version that allows 10 entries.

X-Lite is more stable for Sipgate / SIP providers, especially when you start to receive more than one call coming through.

Firefly is good for outgoing calls on 1899.

This is why I use both X-Lite (Sipgate / FWD) and Firefly (1899).

As mentioned above if you log into the Sipgate website, and then go to https://secure.sipgate.co.uk/user/configuration.php?show_conf=xlite this will show you exactly what settings you need to get your Sipgate number working with X-Lite.

RTP Port 8000 is fine, I forgot I had changed mine in Firefly.
