They don't charge any connection fee if you use VOIP, pc to pc.
Bit if you go internet to landline you pay the usual connection fee!
EDIT 3/3/05: This problem now seems fixed - calls to landlines are now coming on the bill as "FREE" with no connection charge.0 -
Has everyone received the free Bt headphone/Mic then?
I'm still waiting.:(

Hi Riz
Don't beat about the bush if our discussion is boring you!0 -
Nowhere else will you be able to find such fantastic Voip rates (and no connection fees!):
Germany 0p per minute!
Netherlands 0p per minute!
UK 0p per minute!
Remember; NO connection fees
Yes, zero pence per minute!
If they charge a connection fee via VOUP for these numbers they are a disgrace0 -
they do not charge connection fees for VOIP calls
so its completely free!!!0 -
I too read this as (a) 0p per min to the designated countries - clear enough, and no dispute. (b) no 3p connection fee.
What would be the point of going to all the trouble of setting up the account, cluttering up your lovely clean PC with their messy software, suffering the delays akin to a transatlantic satellite link, having to invest in a (or blag a free BT-) headset and having to pay them the same 3p that you'd get if you picked up the phone and dialled 4 digits?
They say this is a beta, so expect it to be chargeable eventually but do they expect you to pay them for their testing?0 -
If you have a laptop with the appropriate software and hardware and travel abroad, then you should be able to use this as a very cheap way to call home.
So if you are in say Tenerife with net access, and want to call uk land line then just use this normally, no 0044 just dial the 01 or 02 numbers as if you were at home.
The only reservations I have is the voice quality I tried this today and was not impressed.
The landline receiving complained of low audio level, despite the mic being set a max gain, the incoming audio from the landline was "clickey"
Using the following programs audio level PC to PC were OK.
If you want to call a home PC from abroad you can use Netmeeting, but change the codec to A law (advanced settings) or use an old program called G-Phone version 2.0.2 and that works well, the quality on both netmeeting and Gphone is very good. I have used both on a wireless connection at a Hotel in Mallorca to UK with excellent results, and of course the calls were FREE.
I have found the "mother" program of the 1899 soft phone and that does allow a change of codec, so I may get better results.
