RSS feeds are a way to get the 'headlines' from a site without actually visiting it. There are various ways to display these feeds - I've seen one program that makes them scroll accross your desktop
Firefox displays RSS by making them into "live bookmarks"
Eg here is my bbc live bookmark showing the latest headlines. The contents of this bookmark will change during the day as it is updated
(the bbc page in the background is just coincidence - I could look at the feed with any page displayed)
EDIT:sorry Talon - must have been writing this while you were posting the answer0 -
You begin to realise you are getting old when you ask a question and two helpful people answer - and you comprehend absolutely none of what they say (thanks anyway people, I'll just muddle through as I am).30 years, 217 days!0

Some sites make it easy to get rss. If you go to http://news.bbc.co.uk/ you'll seein the bottom right of your browser (unless you've changed the theme in which case you might see a different orange symbol)
Just click it and select "subscribe.."
The bookmark menu will popup and you just bookmark it
Once you have it in your bookmarks you'll probably understand:)0 -
indeed tis true...i am yet to find a way to know that a site has an RSS feed without the little orange symbol, which is why i had to ask sra where the links for the RSS were on here...now i got a big ole folder of 'em!!Talon "Ace" Karrde

But I did see an orange loudspeaker symbol and clicking on that did something.30 years, 217 days!0 -
At the risk of sounding thick here
... could someone please explain to me how to get the links that sra posted to show as livefeeds in bookmarks?
I managed to do the BBC one ok using the orange symbol, but when I clicked on the other links there was no orange symbol and just a page full of html coding and I tried bookmarking the page anyway but it doesn't come up as a live feed"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

If you don't see the symbol in the bottom-right of the status bar and can actually get to the XML (described by Curry_Queen), just copy the address and then click 'Bookmarks->Manage Bookmarks'. This should open a new window where you should then click 'File->New Live Bookmark'; paste the address you just copied.0

I'll need to try and write up how to get rss feeds in the This site:questions and suggestions board in the next day or so.
But I want to find the best way for non-firefoxers to get the feeds first so I don't bore everyone.
and sorry to take your thread so much off topic rush0 -
i didn't think IE (as an example) was RSS enabled?Talon "Ace" Karrde
