i didn't think IE (as an example) was RSS enabled?

It's not - I was thinking of the other ways you can get rss like Rocket RSS reader or ENewsbar.

I'd like to be able to tell other site users how they use RSS so it isn't restricted to us in the cult of firefox :)

I think it's far better and easier to use a dedicated RSS News Reader program. The Firefox 'Live Bookmarks' feature is a kludge if you ask me.

The best one I've tried is FeedDemon, however it's a $29.95 purchase after the 30 day trial has expired.

Another one I liked is the free RssReader. This requires Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 (also free) to be installed.

Others I've tried are SharpReader and FeedReader. There are plenty more - just search for 'RSS reader'.

BBC News has a brief intro to RSS feeds.

The new version of Opera, currently in Beta, will show an RSS box in the address bar if there is an RSS feed for that page. All you have to do then is click on that to subscribe to the RSS feed.

This has been incredibly useful. I've been amazed at how many sites I've been to that I didn't know had an RSS feed.

have to say, that despite my love for firefox, it isn't all that great in letting you know when a feed might be available, there are only two sites i've been to where the little icon has popped up, one was BBC and the other was Guardian, which are both news anyways!

Nasnowt was asking about loading the buddy list in the sidepanel

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/misc.html?do=buddylist&focus=1

that's the url for the buddy list. Right-click the url and 'Bookmark this link'
(or you can drag it to the bookmarks toolbar)

Once you've done that, right-click the bookmark, select Properties and tick Load this bookmark in the sidebar

From now on when you click the bookmark, it should look something like this
