Ignore the jealousy Liz, I bet there's a lot of newbies sign up to comp after reading your story!
Good luck with the Bakery comp :j
Sorry to hear about the poor kitten xxBig thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!0 -
:TWell done with your comp wins:T I'm so sorry to hear about your poor little kitten.

Aww thank you everyone, you've just made me cry...again...all I've done since Saturday is cry hysterically, both about my beloved Revel & about the nasty, vindictive comments about me online. I've had a lovely message from one of the other finalists in the NY comp saying how sorry she is that I've been targeted like that, she says she wins loads of prizes too but didn't say anything to the papers as she knew what people would be like about it. She says that she CAN afford to pay for all the holidays she want & wishes me luck, which again made me cry though I really don't feel like I want to win the comp now as they're basically saying I've cheated, which I haven't, & say a genuine entrant should win. I was chosen by NY Bakery as a finalist because of the poem I wrote NOT by votes as I never enter voting comps & as I said before this wasn't supposed to be one & ultimately it WONT be as NY Bakery will choose the winner but then what happens if I do actually win & haven't got most votes, I'll be called a cheat again. I didn't give my permission to the Mail or Metro so I have asked for a public apology from them first of all but people are saying I should sue, not for money but for defamation of character as they've said I 'earn a living' from comping which I don't, I have my company pension which almost covers my mortgage & bills & my wins help pay for my so called luxurious lifestyle, basically food, household & beauty products as my disability living allowance is reduced by £50 per week to pay for my motability car. I don't have the fantastic social life I used to have when I was working & before I became so ill, I had to give up the hobby I loved as a mad, crazy ice hockey fan travelling the world to follow the GB team & this country following my local team, Nottingham Panthers, which is the reason I moved to nottingham in the first place. I've been to one game in the last 3 years & haven't been able to go since so comping has become my only enjoyment. I can't go pubbing & clubbing with my friends like I used to as I can't walk from pub to pub & refuse to go in my wheelchair & they take the mickey out of me, in a nice way, as when I do go out or round to their houses I always fall asleep anyway as I'm so exhausted. I haven't entered a single comp in 2 days as I've been so ill because of all these horrible people & because of my beautiful Rebel, why don't they condemn the people who deliberately poisoned him instead of someone who has committed the terrible sin of comping!Positivity is the key to success0

Liz, you are an inspiration to all the compers on this site. Not only do you win lots of lovely stuff but you also post a lot of comps too and I am sure many fellow compers are as grateful as I am for all the efforts you put in on the comps board.
I too am a cat person and my heart goes out to you - I can't begin to understand how upset you must be after losing your kitten in such a cruel way.
Keep smiling, enjoying your wins and ignoring the nasty, jealous posters.:)0 -
Sorry to see how you have been treated. I think a lot of it is sour grapes - When I read some of the wins I see the little green monster sometimes "it should have been me!!".
When people write I have won 5 cameras with ... I think thats so unfair I have entered x times and not won but that is just the luck of the draw.
Try not to let it upset you, I hope it doesnt affect your effort for the Bagle comp - I really liked your entry. - as they say a few people ruin things for everyone, and I bet most people on here are on your side.
Keep your chin up - sorry to hear about your cat, its one of the family.
:dance:Carry on Comping :dance:0 -
Liz, It's because they are all a bunch of bitter, jealous imbeciles. Unfortunately, haters are always going to hate. The press and their over-sensationalistic tendencies don't help either.
I say just leave them too it and carry on enjoying what you do.

Liz, I am new to this forum but I can see how well you are thought of, so please try and keep that in your mind rather than nasty comments from a few jealous, sad individuals.
Keep your chin up and we all wish you nothing but the best x0 -

I believe it is defamatory too, Liz. However, there was a programme on the BBC a while ago about celebrities going to court to try to sue papers for defamation and very few succeeded, and it cost them a hell of a lot of money. So I think it is not worth sueing in this case. I'd certainly complain to them though and mention about the article being defamatory, and let's hope they at least issue some sort of apology.
I think in respect of you not giving your consent to being in the Mail, unfortunately they probably do not need it as it is in the same group as the paper which you originally did your story with.0 -

I have to agree. I would not bother trying to sue for defamation of character. It would be too time consuming, cost a lot of money and will probably be extremely stressful for you. IMO i don't think it will be worth it.
As for not giving consent to The Mail and The Metro to publish the story, i guess that depends on what was in the terms and conditions of the contract you signed when doing the interview with thisisnottingham?
All the best Liz! Try not to let people rain on your parade! Whatever one does, people always have something to say (whether good or bad.) I've always said to my friends, be careful who you share things with, not everyone wishes you well.
Well done on the Take a Break article, i find articles like yours really inspiring!

thanks again everyone, I didn't sign a contract with thisisnottingham as it wasn't as if i was getting paid for it, it was New york bakery who wanted me to do an article, I suppose to give them publicity for their comp, which I was happy to do if they're so good as to run such a great competition & choose me from all the hundreds of entries as a worthy finalist, but I really wish I hadn't done it now, but thank you everyone for all your support, you're all angels :A xxxxPositivity is the key to success0
