there is a secret button no-one knows about that people press to set off the alarms so they can stop people...
Oh THAT button ... didn't think anyone else knew about it!You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -

Yup, we're all amazingly talented and do CCTV, doors, staff searches, stock re-fill, stock count, delivery checks, product health checks, we're all customer service desk trained, too!Dr_Cuckoo3 wrote: »do you have more buttons in the CCTV office than on the monitoring station near the entrance ?
Does the fact we have keyboards in the CCTV office count? Kinda need them to write statements 'n all...
The actual camera control equipment is identical at the main door and in the office.0 -
JaymesKenin - your contribution to the thread has been very helpful, not least due to the manner in which you have expressed yourself (clear, intelligent, good-humoured). I wish more store security personnel shared your outlook and knowledge.0

I suspect you need to do more research into store security measures if you wasn't aware of that, added to your perception that there are special buttons to set off alarms.
What would the purpose of setting the alarm off manually be for anyway? Security doesnt need an alarm to go off to approach a suspect. If they have been seen stealing then they can stop them when they have left the store anyway, regardless. An alarm isnt going to make a thief stop in their tracks!
I have been a manager of a large clothing retailer which included the management of security, and I have never heard of such a thing, although your paranoia may suggest that such information is on a need to know basis, and I didnt need to know0 -
Just to clarify, setting off one of these detectors is not a reasonable grounds for a police officer to search you, and security guards have no powers to search you. They can request that you submit to a voluntary search. I would never do so, I have no intention of letting some grubby untrained security guard go through my things, in these cases I normally ignore everything they say and walk out.It must be accepted as a principle that the rifle cannot replace the speed of the horse, the magnetism of the charge and the terror of cold steel.

No, because he knows his rights and has not stolen anything.
Personally I'd be really interested to know what had set off the alarm so I would be taking the lead in the investigation. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Yes pretty much, and also because most of the time when I have to go into shops and these alarms get set off I know what has done it and I am certainly not going to be explaining that to a security guard, but also because I know I haven't stolen anything and because I do not have to engage in conversation with revenue protection employees who normally have bog all understanding of the law.It must be accepted as a principle that the rifle cannot replace the speed of the horse, the magnetism of the charge and the terror of cold steel.
