I totally agree with you in general, Doshwaster...but I think that if a hotel has lots of negative reviews regarding thefts from rooms, then maybe I may be a bit more concerned...as it stands, we've never had an issue and regularly leave stealable stuff in view (not money, not cards, not passports...but plenty of electronics).

But we only stay in places we're comfortable with...and part of that comfort is a reasonable expectation that nothing will be stolen...if I read a bunch of reviews about things being stolen from rooms at a particular hotel, we might act differently...a one-off, not much concern, but if it appears to be a significant issue for the hotel, then it may be another story...though with my review checking obsession, we would have passed the hotel by in the first place.

I had something stolen out of a checked suitcase once though...

Oh please...that is pathetic. You Googled it and found two instances. One in 2005 and one in 2008. In Honolulu and Nevada.

The fact that you had to Google it means that you or no one you know has ever had it happen to them. Ever

So you are just being argumentative.

I can assure that I travel far more than you have ever done in your lifetime.

To be fair, you didn't specifically ask if he knew anyone who had this happen:

Have you E V E R read of a complaint or heard of someone complaining ...

I acknowledge it's probably quite an unsual thing to happen...though not impossible - highly unlikely...not really worth considering in the grand scheme of things, I wouldn't think.

But I still don't think locked suitcases are the answer - even if it's unlikely that anyone would take the case from your room. :)

Grow up. You post is just rubbish. No one believes that the Prepaid Thomas Cook card is "the way to go".

I avoid Thomas Cook and their products like the plague... with good reason.
So for you to recommend their product above all others either means that you work for them and are very loyal or you just haven't a clue.

    Rude? No. Honest? Yes. :)

There is no the answer. A high quality lock on a suitcase is an answer. A reliable one at that. I would certainly trust it more than an in-room safe.

    nope, that's your role.

Suitcases get stolen all the time and a locked suitcase /anything is an indication that there's something to hide.

Nobody is going to check socks, and pockets of everything in your drawers but they will go straight for a suitcase

Where is it he's going on holiday?

Few years ago we got robbed, worst of it is, there was about 8 of us in the room all passed out about 8 in the morning, someone who clearly had a key for the room, got in, went into my bag, got the safe key out and was rummaging through the safe before one of us woke up and saw them, luckily being young all our parents made us get travellers cheques, so the only money stolen was from handbags/mens jeans and it was just personal spends for that night. Brand new cameras etc got left so that was a consolation. Reported it to the hotel who just weren't interested, got our locks changed and that was about it, something fishy there.
The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.

Sorry, your six year old and three year old Google reports hold no water when concerning your theoretical argument.

I take at least ten vacations every year. Have you actually ever been abroad?

You're showing your lack or argument. Firstly you asked if i'd read of any suitcases being stolen so i googled it to find that it does happen; the age of the reports is irrelevant.

You claim that my argument is 'theoretical' when it's been backed up by the links provided and also by actually being alive. It's a simple well know fact that a locked case / box / whatever will be targeted as there is a reason it's locked.

i've been abroad plenty of times thank you, although seeing as i'm not American i won't claim to go on 'vacation' ten times a year.

and i agree that you are 'stilltheone' although it's debatable what 'the one' is.
