A locked suitcase / glove box / anything, will tell a thief that what they're looking for is in there. They'll probably steal the suitcase.

Funny, but not likely true. Pilfering staff are unlikely to want to be seen wheeling your suitcase out of your room. Pilfering guests will not want to be caught with someone else's suitcase in their room.
    Yours simply an unlikely scenario.

yeah, they're not going to keep the suitcase. The most natural thing to see in a holiday resort is somebody carrying a suitcase.
all they have to do is smash it open because they know there's something in there, whether it's in their room (and it's unlikely anybody will see it there), behind the hotel, a quiet spot on the beach or behind a bar... it's a simple grab and run.

So the thief is going to walk out the apartments and start smashing up a suitcase around the back? Are you on drugs? Hallucinating?

Have you E V E R read of a complaint or heard of someone complaining of their luggage being stolen from their room?

You are just being silly....or perhaps you are just a scheming_gypsy.

I kind of agree with the locked suitcase being a beacon for a thief...but I also stash my holiday cash in a rolled up pair of socks with all my other rolled up pairs of socks (so glad to know that I am not the only one who uses this particular money hiding tactic)...never used locks - occasionally we've used cable ties but not for years, just don't really see the point.

Personally, I don't put much stock in locks on cases anyway - if someone knows what they are doing, they'll get into the case...probably without leaving any obvious trace of their handiwork...youtube it.

Oh, and to the OP - if it was me - I would suggest he get 2 FairFX cards (or similar)...one with the bulk of his funds on it kept on his person - taking out cash as needed - the other as a back-up in case the first goes missing maybe stashed somewhere as safe as possible - he could transfer the funds from the lost/stolen one to the safe one...it's not perfect...but I also have to assume that on a lad's holiday there will be good periods of time that the boys won't necessarily be 100% focused on security of their personal effects. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

We put our passports/cash etc inside the cushion on the sofa. You can generally unzip them, we then put our stuff in there and turn it over so you can't see the bulge. :)

By the way prepaid Thomas Cook card is the way to go. Very easy, and can be replaced quickly if stolen.

People get too paranoid about things being stolen from hotel rooms. I must have had over 1000 nights in hotels of all standards and I've never had anything stolen.

You are far, far, more likely to lose your money, passport or other possessions while out and about either by accidentally losing them (especially after a few drinks), leaving them on the beach or from pickpockets and opportunistic thieves.
