Hi, I used to have my website with EKM and people put their card details into the site and they would all be visible to me on the site and I would enter those details into my credit card machine.

You need to have a MOTO (Mail Order/Telephone Order) merchant account to do this but they are pretty easy to get hold of from certain banks to be honest - especially if that person is already running a 'legitimate' business elsewhere and has an account with them.

I would suggest that you cancel your cards ASAP. There is an emergency number on the back of your card for 'lost and stolen cards' call that number.

I would say now that you should not use any website that does not have a valid security seal and Verified by Visa. By law, if a company is taking your card details now online you SHOULD be going through the VBV screen, there are heavy penalties for companies who abuse card numbers so I would just say report, report, report so he possibly gets blacklisted form having more accounts (if he gets away with this one). I know this is no help for the people that it has happened to, but I hope it helps for the future and someone who buys something online remembers this.

You should be able to go to the counter in your bank with ID & get money out that way.

    HTH

i hope so but the only photo id i have is my passport which is expired, maybe i should make a call beforehand to see what they'll accept as id,if it comes to that, i mean i can prove it's my account but i was turned down for a bank account with another bank because it was 29 days til my passport expired and they had a 30day cutoff period and were serious jobsworths so i kept the account i had with this bank (probably just as well they aren't so bad) hopefully my card will come in time and i won't have to worry about it

I have a shop with EKM and use a 'proper' payment provider so I never see card details, hence my belief he wouldn't be able to see them. Just thought I'd clarify as your first paragraph makes me look like a liar (inadvertently, of course!)!

He's obviously used a system you have described - I wasn't aware this existed until today. Thanks for giving more details.

No. no, absolutely not and htis was not my intention, sorry, I just wanted to explain how it works and that it was possible for him to have the card details and why you should cancel the card. Because you have not 'authorised' to a certain amount, this is how card details can be used, without limit, on any other website. He could even ask for various pieces of sensitive info in the 'account creation' so he could even change your VBV code tpo put coes through. Unless you had used that system then no you would not know. You usually pay more in Merchant Charges for a MOTO account because there is more risk of getting a fraudulent transaction.

The payment gateway I use now (Sagepay, used to be Protx) is a 3rd party one and I do not have access to details like you. It is the best way to be honest.

Thanks guys, did a quick tesco nappy + DTD shop and then came and cancelled my card... Bit gutted though, I've had that long number for about 7 years... Going to have to memorise a new one now!

    Bloody scum bag!

When I lost mine krystal (well, I just misplaced it but found it after but too late) the new card had just the 2 digits at the end different but the security code and the expiry date are very different so impossible to guess.

I have now cancelled my card too, the tales on here have convinced me that I probably wouldn't just lose £1.95.
