Bad thing is, I forced OH to get one and get it sent to his work (what an idiot am I), now he cant remember which card he used, he has a lot of cards... Spent much of today calling around them all, the bad thing is that the 1.95 doesnt even seem to come off, so you cannot tell which one it is.
It makes you think tho, as I use that prepaid card alot for online shopping as its easy to just stick in work address, my mums address ect and the card seems to accept any address, there is also no 3d secure required on it as its prepaid I guess... Nice and quick and easy... needless to say I will not be using it again.0 -
The 1.95 will not come off the card, it was a scam to get you to leave your card details on their site - all of which they now have access to, this is why it is important you cancel your cards.
There was no authorisation process, when you make a payment online the payment goes through a gateway and the card details are secure. This is why you should always look for certificates of site security and click on them too, you should get verification come up. Authorisation usually means the retiler can take 'up to' that amount and no more. Because there has been no authorisation process when you bought, your card details can be used to the shop floor limit.0 -
I hope Argos, John Lewis ect take police action. This idiot should be caught.:(0

They won't.
People do this type of fraud because it is easy and cheap to do, and they know the police will not investigate.
There is also probably a network of people using the stolen details, or they have been posted on the internet. There are forums and message boards just like MSE but dedicated to fraud where they openly sell and trade stolen card details.0 -
i fell for it and paid using my debit card. i rang the bank and they said there is no point cancelling my card as the new one would have the same details on so the only thing to do would be to open a new account but there really is no point (?!). They recommended that i leave it for now and keep an eye on my account and then get in touch if anything happens. Does this sound right? I am with lloyds.0

I am not with Lloyds but whenever I was issued with a replacement Visa Debit card either because it had expired or the chip became faulty, then the new cards were all different numbers.
I think my old Visa Electron card had the same numbers when that was reissued though.0 -

My husband ordered one of the T shirts for our son and of course it never arrived and the money was never debited from his account in common with lots of other people.
I saw this thread a couple of days ago and got him to cancel his card and order a new one from the bank. The bank were not that willing at first but eventually recorded his card as having been stolen.
Just in time it seems as having checked his bank statement online today he found that yesterday someone tried to use his card details to order £400+ worth of goods from Argos. The payment showed as having been debited but was then refunded on the same day. It was obviously picked up by the bank.
I would advise anyone who has not yet told their bank to cancel their card to do so. My husband's new card took just two days to arrive.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. It certainly helped me to 'put things right'.0 -
I've asked MSE Andrea if details of this thread and the warning to cancel cards can possibly go in the weekly bulletin as so many people would not have seen this thread. If you can remember anyone who bought, that you was chatting too, please drop them a PM to warn them to cancel cards.
It was not the posters fault who said that details would be safe, he was working on a different system where a 3rd party held card details, I only know because I had the same system.
If it is not Verified by Visa or Mastercard Secure, please do think twice about giving your card details over. it is a pain to have more passwords but you can be pretty sure that your details will be safe and not misued.0
