  • Just checked my email and got the one saying they've basically cancelled the offer - not impressed, if they can't honour the deal don't offer it! So now we've given our e-mail addresses and details to a company for absolutely nothing. Expected more of Ocado!

Ooh, my earlier post was quoted in the last paragraph of the MSE News article...

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/shopping/2011/06/ocado-disappoints-thousands-of-shoppers

Excited about that, but still disapointed in Ocado.

A lot of companies "underestimate" the demand for an offer and try to pull a fast one by pulling the offer. Hindsight is a great thing, but 30,000+ people on Crowdity - where they ever going to honor all of those? Either way, I wasn't going to hang around to find out and ordered it at 9am.

Delivery could be booked for 3 weeks later, so unless you are unavailable for the entire 3 weeks there wasn't really any reason to wait around, especially as we were informed about it on Monday or whenever it was so had time to plan, get funds in banks or whatever. Hanging around on any offer (especially one that is as good as this) is just asking for trouble IMO

This is the most sensible posting. I did the same. There was no way I was hanging about and waiting until next week. I put the money in my account, was even going to have items delivered next week but changed it because I wanted the right away. Next time people, just get in there and order.

Im very disappointed with the offer being pulled, and the £20 saving would have been nice, but I'll struggle on...

Thought this offer was too good to be true!

The thread is getting very long now and not had a chance to go through it all, and who all everyone thinks is to blame... BUT ultimately the buck has to stop with Ocado!

Other online retailers regularly offer discount codes/coupons, but to avoid the system being abused, they issue each user a unique code that can only be redeem by one person once! If they issue one offer code to everyone, it was obvious the code would abused and spread across the internet like wildfire.

With Ocado being a major online retailer, the egg is very much on their face! They have probably lost quite a few potential customers who would have taken up the offer, enjoyed the experience and continued using them!

Nevermind, time to move on. Lifes too short!

Which part of it? I asked people to be nice to each other!
I take it you are one that didn't get their order either then as well? It's not just you, you know? ......

I did get my order in but have to agree that people have been very greedy, ordering multiple times. perhaps I'm crazy but I wanted others to share in this promotion. Oh well, next time these companies have to be more savvy.

Maybe, but maybe also they have saved themselves a lot of money. With their prices I'm not sure how many people would use them again. From their point of view this probably makes good business sense. And for those who are saying they would never shop with Occado after this, are you seriously saying that if they came out with the same offer (for existing or new customers) that you would just ignore it! Liar, liar pants on fire!!

Could they take £x from your account and then come back and take another £20 a few days later????

I just logged onto to cancel my order and its still saying I have the discount but I really dont believe it.
    Your Special Offers

You will save £21.74 with special offers
    Voucher Savings
    • Ocado Voucher £20.00

Honestly I'd leave it as is. If it says you've got the voucher you've got it. The front Ocado page says "any orders amended or made after the 23rd June will not be honoured" but any before are going through correct

I guess that's one way of looking at it. There's no doubt this should have been handed better so this type of thing couldn't happen. End of the day they are not going to honour 30,000 codes no matter what pressure MSE tries to apply. The best that can happen is that codes are issued separately to those first 2,000 who might have missed out.

I actually think this would be a fab idea! I hope that Ocado take the hint and do something like this. Issuing general codes on offers like this is asking for trouble and I think by allowing Cowidty to make amense by giving out individual or 1 time vouchers would at least allow those who missed out the chance to take part. I didn't miss out but my sister did so I sympathise with those that did miss out as she was gutted. Oh and if they did issue codes to the first 2000 assuming I was one of them I wouldn't be using it I would be donating it to someone else instead as I have already had my bite of this cherry but I think this would be a fair solution to the issue.

  • In post on MSE about this deal ;

''Originally distributed via official channels to Crowdity users, this offer spread out of control through forum leaks to unmanageable levels. It is our deepest regret that genuine customers who signed up through genuine channels missed out on this offer due to the unauthorized use of the offer and we will work tirelessly to ensure this could never occur again in the future''

I fully agree with the above comment! ....forum leaks to unmanageable levels... how many people used the code BEFORE it was even officially released by Crowdity , how many people used the code and didn't even bother going through Crowdity ... GENUINE customers who went through genuine channels missed out on this offer due to the unauthorized use of the offer

Thats the bit which upsets me , genuine Joe Bloggs like me just wanting to save a bit on our weekly shop miss out because of the unscrupulous use of the code

I do still have my order pending delivery thank goodness and so does my sister BUT I STILL FEEL FOR THOSE genuine people who WAITED to use the code when it was issued officially who MISSED OUT!!

    Sorry agree with dirtysexymoney.

If people had not abused this offer (at least one post claimed to have signed up 4 family members for the offer) then the people who honestly wanted to use it would have had a much better chance of doing so.

And when your on a budget, £40 of shopping can last a long time, so saving £20 off it makes a massive difference, rather than stocking up on the "wine lake!"

    Here , here Lawrie28!!! :D
