Again, another one here was going to place an order this morning but looks like the greedy people have ruined it for all. I wouldn't mind but I was in the first 500 to register, had a code sent to me and cannot use because they have 'reached their limit' because people have abused it.

I didn't want alcohol, cigarettes or stamps, I just wanted nappies for my daughter as this is such a large expense when you have children.

I cannot see why they cannot cancel multiple orders and charge those who placed more than one order full price, it does say in th e t&cs only one per household.

surely it was clear to everyone that it would be limited issue and to redeem it ASAP!?!?

Er, no it wasn't. It was stated that there was a MINIMUM needed to make this work - no mention of any maxiimum.

And there was no reason to think it should be redeemed asap - the voucher has a clear 'use by' date - again, no reason to disbelieve this.

There WAS abuse - the code was issued early, and unofficially - and then used early - which is abuse. And Ocado's systems were simple enough to accept the code early - which is a fault by them.

The major failing is Ocado failing to understand the need for individual codes - I couldn't believe it when it became obvious it was all just one code. Only then was there any incentive to go in fast and early - and then only because a non-specific code is, er, open to abuse...

Abuse, in this case, is anyone using it early, anyone using it when they didn't get it direct from crowdity, or anyone using it multiple times.

Just because the ocado systems didn't stop such use it doesn't make that use not 'abuse'.

Can someone help me again please? I tried my best in good faith to use this voucher, waited for the e-mail to come through and using it for a normal shop to save some money and help us get by - managed to get 8 dinners plus some extra's in the basket for £20.01 before delivery and as you've all noticed it's now saying the voucher has expired early.

It was all saved in my basket ready to order today, when I go to the checkout the voucher is still there, it will let me order it and says the amount to come off my card is £23 inc delivery - does anyone know if the order will just be cancelled or if, as the voucher was in my trolley and saved will it still be honored? I can't risk them charging the full amount.

    Thanks in advance:o

I was in the same situation and have just completed my order. It went through at the £20-something price on my credit card as the voucher was already applied to the order. As others have said, as long as you don't edit an existing order, it should go through.

another badly thought out promotion by a supermarket.....just like tesco and its price check guarantee....

yes there are some who will have abused this promotion, but that's inevitable. unfortunately, not much can be done about that. ocado/crowdity should have realised that this would happen (i.e. multiple orders etc.).

the email was sent to 5+ million people and 30,000 registered for the deal on crowdity. what happens? we find out that the code is a generic code that anyone could use. that's the problem.

ocado should have limited the deal and provided unique codes. no abuse then and genuine people who registered on crowdity would have got their bargain shops.

i did say that this promo would cause headaches for ocado...and it has. but it's also annoyed many money savers too.

33,000+ signed up through Crowdity. Even without the voucher being leaked around the net, people using it twice etc - you really think they'd honor 33,000 first orders!? Everything has a maximum!

There WAS some abuse, by a small minority of people - but that's not the reason it was stopped. They can void people that abused the offer if they so wish. Multiple orders to one address is easy to stop. Voiding non-Crowdity users is harder but not exactly rocket science - run a simple match between Crowdity registered users and Ocado pending orders - anyone not matched up gets their order cancelled!

Their issue is that too many people (even discounting non-crowdity users) used the voucher... even 33,000+ IS too much, and now they are worried - for that they only have themselves to blame! There are multiple ways to have stopped this, they have pulled it because they have realized their own incompetence. Abuse (non-Crowdity users, people ordering 3/4/5 times etc) was probably an element of stopping it, but I firmly believe they'd have never honored well over 35,000 orders (700k worth of "money off" vouchers - although the net cost to them is clearly less) in the first place - hence getting in there ASAP.

According to Crowdity's Facebook they are working with Ocado... I can see this coming back up for people that registered for it through Crowdity, with individual codes...

Apparently crowdity are "looking into it" according to their twitter feed
  • UPDATE 24 JUNE 10.30am.

Ocado has informed us the code has been pulled early due to huge demand. The original terms of the offer stated the code could be used until 30 June and there was no limit to the number of codes available. We are speaking to Ocado and Crowdity to see if the offer can be honoured. We will update you here asap.
