The middle block of pins is for the jumper, not a connection lead. Remove the plastic jumper from where it currently is and put it on the 2 leftmost pins in the middle block - see the Maxtor link in post 28 if you're not sure.Kelloggs wrote:Ohhh :S i dont have a connection lead for the middle...
Ah, but you're connecting this drive with an IDE to USB cable, however the principle is the same.Kelloggs wrote:With my other old HDD all i did was connect the IDE wire and it brought up a list of things i could do with it .... i viewed files to be able to copy them on to my computer...0

Is IDE to USB cable connected to drive and plugged in to USB port on back of computer?
 Is jumper set to Master?
Is power connected and switched on?
If so, the drive should appear in My Computer.0

Hi Kell - seems your old old ide drive was set to be the master (main drive on a 2 drive cable ) some computers can tell which is the master drive by where it is connected on the cable ( so called cable select ) - as per your last pc - unfortunately using USB>SATA>ISE cable/device means you have to set the old drive to be master - it is either master or slave or cable select - never a combination so use the jumper available to set the old drive to be a master drive. ( Sata drives do not have this issue - hence my earlier comment ) HTHRich people save then spend.

rite, all of those things have been done, and its plugged into back yes...
Ive looked in My computer and still there is nothing there...
The only thing that shows that it connected to my computer is when it makes that sound to say new hardware found.... its also present in the 'safely remove hardware' to the bottom left of the screen there...its named 'y' (with 2 dots above it)...0
